Waking her up after a nightmare

You sat up in bed, your head against the headboard as your chest rose up and down quickly. You were still struggling to catch your breath, panting and nearly hyperventilating. You kept replaying the nightmare in your head, unable to escape the lingering feeling it left. It was definitely the worst you'd had in a long time. So much so that you were considering waking up Demi, something you only did if you were feeling sick or if there was an emergency. But this nightmare was different. It left its mark on you, making sure you couldn't forget how terrifying it was. You looked at Demi and watched her sleep for a minute. She had her eyes shut tight but every now and then her eyelashes would flutter against her cheek, some nights she'd even smile in her sleep. You loved watching her drift away further in to dreamland but tonight was not like every other night.

You felt a tear stream down your cheek and rubbed Demi's back. When that didn't work you tapped her shoulder lightly, whispering her name in the dark room. Her eyes opened and she rolled over to face you, sitting up straight as soon as she saw how anxious and upset you looked. Immediately she pulled you in her arms, stroking your hair and kissing your cheek from time to time. "Princess What happened? Was it another nightmare?" You nodded your head and she frowned, her arms tightening around you a little more. "What was it about this time?" "It was awful Demi. You got hurt! Someone hurt you and-and th-they blamed it on me. They said it was all my fault. I lost you Demi!" "Hey Hey Hey. It's okay baby girl. It was just a nightmare, alright? It wasn't real. I'm right here, you won't ever lose me!" You nodded your head and sniffled a few times, a couple stray tears escaping from your eyes that were quickly wiped away by Demi. She kept holding you and comforting you till you, somehow, eventually fell asleep again, Demi sighing and kissing your forehead a few times, wishing that you never had to go through that again.
