You have finished your shift and you are back at your apartment and you are about to relax when you hear a knock on the door.
"I'm coming," you say as you make your way to the door
"ok," the man replies and you recognise his voice
Ten seconds later open the door to find the last person you expected to see
"dad what are you doing here?" you ask because you had no idea that he was going to come back
"I owe you a better explanation as to why I left when you were thirteen," he says
"does Tommy know your here?" you ask wanting to get to the bottom of things
"no, I need you to call him because I have no way to get a hold of him and the only reason why I knew you were here is the fact that we have a mutual friend, Jay Halstead," your dad says giving you a hug
"Dad I'll call Tommy and we will go from there," you say but your dad starts having difficulty breathing
"Dad are you all right," you know he is not but you ask anyway
He just shakes his head and he puts his hand over his chest. You call 911
"911 what's your emergency?" the operator asks
"I need paramedics at 193 Chicago Ave the apartment number is 23 on the second level my dad is having a possible heart attack," you say giving the necessary information
"dad I'll come with you ok even though you abandoned me"
"I'm sorry about that ok that's why I'm here," he struggles to get the sentence out

seventeen minutes later and you and your dad have made it to Med.
"talk to me," Maggie says giving the paramedics the cue to tell her the important information
"GCS 15 Jackson (Y/L/N), he is having a possible heart attack nothing given," you say beating the paramedic to it
"trauma room 7," Maggie says
Five minutes later and you have gotten your dad settled and Doctor Rhodes is talking to him
"Mister (Y/L/N) your left aortic valve is not working to the full capacity but we can replace the faulty valve if you allow us to," Connor says briefing your dad on his options
"I will just so long as my daughter assists you because I believe she works here," he says still struggling and he notices the fact you hadn't had the time to change out of your scrubs
"your daughter?" Connor says with confusion
"he means me, yes he is my dad," you say clarifying the confusion
"I wouldn't advise (Y/N) joining me but I do want you to have the surgery..." Connor says thinking he has ruined the chance
"Hey Dad I will be fine waiting in the waiting room for you and in fact I'll call Tommy, Jay and his brother Will while I wait," you say trying to get him to follow Connor's advice
"Ok how long will the surgery take?" your dad splutters
"it depends on who complicated it gets," Connor replies
"I'll do it," your dad says glancing at you
"Sorry, it had to happen like this,"
"Just go for the surgery we will talk later," you say

An hour later and your dad is still in surgery. You are waiting with Tommy, Will and Jay
"So Jay how did you know my dad?" You ask because he said they were friends
"He was my CO for a year and then he was honourably discharged" Jay replies
You have your head rested on Will's shoulder because you are tired from your sift today. You yawn.
"(Y/N) if you want to fall asleep, I wake you when Connor is done," Will offers known you are tired
"thanks Will but I don't think I can sleep until I know my dad will be alright," you reply
"(Y/N) do you know why dad is back in our lives?" Tommy asks
"he said he wanted to give an explanation as to why he left when mum was diagnosed with cancer," you reply
"ok," Tommy says not wanting to delve deeper because he doesn't want anything to do with his dad
"Tommy you should give your dad a second chance," Jay says seeing Tommy's anger
"I know but I don't want to," Tommy says
"because he left us when we needed him the most,"
