Bangtan Writers Awards 2019 winnerBold - Questions
Italicized - Answers1.) how does it feel for your book, Warlords, to win multiple awards as well as getting featured by the official Wattpad community?
I'm grateful to everyone who has ever turned a page of this book. Really! It definitely feels surreal everytime someone likes the book, comments on it, or finds it worthy of an award. And to be recognized within the BTS writers' community is definitely the icing on the cake. I never imagined winning, and I'm still in shock that I have. Especially since I know ARMYs are one of the most creative set of writers here on Wattpad.
2.) you said that you're a full time doctor, in how ways do you manage to write for your stories? and is being a writer one of your dreams, or just a hobby of yours?
Writing helps me deal with stress that invariably comes with my job, and it has always been my escapade from reality. Combine that with BTS, and boom, my imagination goes absolutely wild, haha! I'm not sure if I'll ever have the persistence or time to publish a book outside of WP, but I won't say 'never'. (:
3.) where did you get the inspiration for your books? Most importantly, Warlords?
Most of my stories are inspired from the lives of people I come across--patients, colleagues and friends. I started writing WARLORDS because of my anger towards homophobia. My family is super-conservative, and it made me furious when they asked me to stop talking to one of my best friends who recently came out to me as gay. The idea was to show that the prejudice still exists until today, contrasting it against a time when homophobia was valid with 'reason'. And it worked best with The Korean War as a recurring theme, which is a heart-wrenching reality in itself.
4.) for you, what factor of your book made it to be recognized?
It's a story that will resonate with anyone dealing not just with their sexuality, but also the idea of love and if it truly lasts 'forever'. WARLORDS is a coming-of-age story, where you see the characters (Taekook) pass through the different stages of love--infatuation, lust, unsurety, resentment, conflict, compromise and finally acceptance. And this is relatable to any heterosexual person too. Well, that is what my readers have always said to me. :D
5.) what advice can you give to some aspiring wattpad writers?
To new writers - Always write about stuff that matters to YOU. There will be someone in this world who will find their voice in your characters. Also, I see that the new generation on WP is becoming very impatient by the day. I'd advise them to value every read that comes their way, and remember that a 'person' is behind it. The numbers shouldn't matter. Talent will find its way out of the dearth on its own. ;)
Thank you so much saxophone94!
