Chapter 6: Ashes to Ashes

Rose's POV

I conjured all the bravery that I could muster, I don't know why but this scared me. Dad has always thought of me as a fragile girl who could not handle myself, even though he personally trained me, to the point where I could beat him and all of his members, not to mention that mom had always used her experience and hardship that she had faced before she met dad to keep me and Ollie down to earth, even though it was probably quite hard when dad would spoil us rotten. Dad had promised not to do the same with Rayne but he will. Anyway I thought to myself directing my thoughts back to the task in hand, I entered the room my head high dad was sitting at his desk and his hardened face softened upon seeing me, he smiled and I sat on the seat opposite him, "Hi dad." I greeted and he grabbed my hand softly and then and then asked

"What did you want to talk about baby girl?" I directed my gaze solely to dad and then bravely stated

"As you know I want to become the next Pakhan, once you step down. . . " 

He cut me off saying "Rose you know . . . Well technically Ollie is not of . . ."

"NO DAD! I AM DONE WITH THIS SEXIST BULLSHIT!" I yelled and pulled my hand away from his.

"Rose." he warned but I was too far gone.

"LISTEN FATHER, I AM NOT SOME INNOCENT CHILD WHO IS INCAPABLE OF PROTECTING THEMSELVES! I CAN AND WILL TAKE OVER!" I yelled and he was taken aback by my outburst, I kept my glare stern, entirely on him. 

"Rose, I just don't want to see you get hurt." His voice quivered as he spoke.

"But Ollie?" I questioned and he shook his head and then said

"Of course not but after Sicily . . ." He stopped and took a deep breath and then continued "It would kill me and your mother if anything were to happen to you or Ollie or Rayne." his voice broke towards the end and I said in a calming tone

"Nothing will happen dad, you have trained me to be able to handle anything that comes my way. . . that was an exception, had I not been surrounded by innocents it would have been easy to get out." He nodded and then said

"I will have to check that your brother is adamant that he does not want to take over, and if he states so then you can." My smile was from ear to ear, I hugged dad tightly and then he said

"I just didn't want you to get hurt." I pulled away from the hug, and walked out of the office.

A couple of hours later, I was standing in the knee deep snow with a coffee, I took several deep breaths and decided to take this time to reflect on my future, I watched the cold blue sky, pearl white clouds that passed slowly overhead. My thoughts wandered to taking over, what tactics I could use to show the members that a female leader can be, how I would have to make an impression to show I am NOT weak and that I am NOT a pushover. I was envisioning methods in which to do that when I heard gunshots, being the paranoid person that I am, I pulled my gun from its holster, I would take it everywhere, but I guess that comes with the territory of being the Pakhans daughter. I ran to the door, the sound of gunshots echoed from inside. I ran inside and monitored from behind the kitchen door, I could see two men, I shot both in the head and the fell to the ground, the blood splattered across the white wall behind them, I walked out of the kitchen cautiously and endeavoured further into the living room, Mr Valentini stood with his gun drawn shooting at the rivalling men. I shot at one who was coming in behind him and he fell with a thump down a flight of stairs trailing blood as he fell. I made my way up the stairs as Mr Valentini covered me. I shot the men as I ran along the hallway, and straight to Rayne's room, where a bastard was holding her, now had he not been holding my little sister then I would have blown his brains out, I crept up towards him and tapped his shoulder, he spun around and I delivered a strong hook and he fell back, I grabbed Rayne from his now weak arms and put a bullet in his brain, I heard a scream come from downstairs, I kept Rayne in my arms and ran to Ariadne's room where she sat with a frightened Eva consoling her, Ari's eyes flashed back up to mine and she nodded as I walked through the doorway with Rayne I passed her to Ari who set her on the bed. I knelt down to Eva's level and said quietly "You have to promise me something Eva okay." She nodded and I then continued "I need you to watch Rayne okay and be a brave big girl for me, even though it is a bit scary its okay." She nodded and hugged me tightly, I wiped a few stray tears from her cheek, Ari nodded at me and I headed back out and locked the door from the outside. I ran downstairs shooting men as I went. Mom was being held at gunpoint, dad had tears in his eyes and Ollie looked at her terrified, I stepped in front of Ollie and dad looked over at me, mom yelled 

"Rose get Ollie out of here!" I took Ollie's hand and he refused to move, he was paralyzed on the spot, I would have shot but there were 5 men who held machine guns. I stopped trying will Ollie, the man who held the gun at moms head spoke up

"This is what you get for killing my father Mr Marshall." a gunshot echoed throughout the house and I took my gun and shot at the man, dad  rushed forward to mom who lay on the ground in a pool of her own blood, the men shot at the other 5 and me and Ollie walked forward towards mom, tears ran down dads face and me and Ollie sat round the other side.

"She . . . she's gone."
