Aria's POV

Schneider, Alex, Finn, and I walked in from their baseball game. Alex and Finn walked ahead, while I trailed behind with Schneider. I couldn't keep my self from glaring at the back at Alex's head, because he was refusing to let me talk to Finn, even though we're friends.

"Hi." Alex and I greeted

"Hey, Ms. Alvarez." Finn said after us

"Hey, guys. How was baseball?" She asked with a small smile on her face

"Terrible! I mean, they played great. But my snack game was way off! The kids barely touched my black olive tapenade." Schneider groaned

"Thanks for helping out, but maybe next time pick a food a kid would wanna eat... or has heard of." Penelope suggested

"Yeah, and maybe next time, don't hand out masks with my face on them. Handsome, but creepy." Alex said

I followed the boys into the kitchen to get a snack. We were eating popcorn when Finn and I reach for the same piece. We both retracted our hands and laughed.

"Go ahead." He smiled, gesturing his hand to the bowl

"Thanks." I whispered with a smile of my own

Alex glared at us, silently, from his spot against the kitchen counter.

"Ay!" We heard Penelope call from the living room

"You okay, mom?" Alex asked

"Yeah. I just need to talk to Jolene and get my shoulder squared away." She said

"Here, take one of your pain pills." Lydia suggested

"I thought you don't want me to take "las drogas"? Penelope asked, glaring at her mom

"The pain in your body is real. The pain in your mind is in your head." Lydia said, making me confused

"What happened, Ms. Alvarez?" Finn asked

"It's nothing, Finn." She said, as we moved to sit at the kitchen table

"Don't be so modest. She jacked her shoulder up in Afghanistan, being a hero." Schneider said

"Hero. Kabul, 2004. I was assisting in surgery when a mortar hit close to the OR. The blast caused a pallet of surgical gloves to fall on my shoulder. The last part is not as impressive. But still, it's a war wound." Penelope said

"Well... thank you for your service, Ms. Alvarez." Finn said, saluting

"Yeah, don't do that." Penelope commented

"So can we have some money for the fair?" Alex asked

"Sure. Grab ten bucks from my purse." Penelope said
