My teacher wasn't exactly furious that I was 15 minutes late for homeroom with no excuse.

No, he was much, much worse.

I had just parked the car in my High Schools car park. There were always a few free spaces no matter how late you were, here at Lofton High. After jumping out of my beat up convertible, I made my way to homeroom, avoiding the eyes of the guys who always bunked first period and ignoring the way their eyes traveled down my body. Maybe I should of worn yoga pants instead...

I didn't bother coming up with an excuse for Mr. Dun, he was a moody old man who I didn't have time for. All eyes flickered from whatever Mr. Dun was lecturing about, to my entrance, I scanned the room and found Jack and Tyler sitting at the back, I tried to make my way over there but my teacher had different plans.

Why is it that everyone always has plans that just don't sit with me right?

"Ashleigh, where do you think your going?"

"Up back like I always do?" sniggers filled the classroom, even though that comment was just for me, helping me to get through the day or whatever.

"Don't be smart with me young lady, it will end very badly for you. Would you like to tell us where you've been?"

I was about to say the nurse's room or some other lame excuse, but he was really ticking me off today, so I decided to have a little fun of my own. After all, my dad wasn't around to lecture me about my attitude anymore, so to hell with it.

"Sorry Sir, my shift at the strip club went on a little longer than I expected, won't happen again."

Laughter and cheers erupted throughout the classroom as I made my way to wedge myself in between the seat among Tyler and Jack. Mr Dun just stood there, eyes wide with rage as the whole class was a chorus of 'burn' and 'ouch' and 'whipped'. Looks like I'm going to be the talk of school again this week. So worth it for the look on Dun's face right now.

"Hours detention after school Ashleigh, room C12, if you don't show up I'm putting in a request to suspend you."

I couldn't help but laugh, we all knew Mr Dun was a threatening teacher, but he almost never carried them out. As long as I went to detention everything would be cool. As much as I fantasised about kicking him in the shin, I didn't want to add to my dads obviously already heavy load.

"Sure thing Sir, see you there."

Jack punched me playfully on the arm while Tyler started to crack up again, I couldn't help but love these guys, school was so much better with people who've got your back. I gave Jack a squeeze on the leg as he gave me a big grin.

Leaving homeroom and making my way to first period English, I bumped into some of the guys from my year outside the classroom. My bag fell from where it was slung from my shoulder and as I bent down to pick it up, so did Carter.  I guess you could call him the schools badass, if you were into that type of thing, but he was pretty smart too. Except it seemed like I was the only one who realised. We knocked heads and before I could steady myself I fell back on my feet.

I tried to get up but instantly felt dizzy and gave up, deciding the floor was my friend right now. I hated my clumsiness. 90% of the time I was smooth and confident, but that didn't stop me from being such a clumsy idiot when it came to walking about. Why was I so self-assured? I don't know that I really am, but I've told myself so for so long that I guess maybe, along the way at some point, it became true.

My cheeks flamed as I saw Carter and the other guys staring at me in disbelief. No blusher required.

"Jeez Ash, I'm so sorry. Let me get you up," Carter's eyes were filled with emotion. Guilt? No, it looked more like...
