"Oliver?" Fagin shouted.

Oliver walked to Fagin.

"Yes sir?"'

"It's your turn to go get dinner tonight. You can go steal from the butcher, a pound of beef."

"Yes sir."

"If you like, you can bring a friend with you."

"Of course sir. Lettie, wanna go to the butcher?"

"Yes of course!" I said smiling.

"You can always count Lettie!" Fagin said grinning.

Me and Oliver left. We were walking in town.

"Thank you for coming Lettie."

"No problem, company is a good thing."

"Yes, I just needed protection, it's dangerous out there."

"Oh Oliver, you'll be alright."

Oliver smiled and nodded.

"Is it true you killed your parents?"

"Don't tell anyone, not even Mr. Sikes. I didn't kill both, I killed my father but not mother. I had to witness father murder her, then I gave him a taste of his own medicine."

"What about the charges?"

"I'm being accused of killing both but I actually killed one. But still, I'm a killer whether or not I killed both."

"What happened between your parents?"

"Father was drunk, he didn't want the dinner my mother prepared, it was my birthday dinner. He ruined my birthday."

"I'm so sorry Lettie."

"What were your parents like Oliver?"

"I don't have parents,  I was taken in by a couple who owns a workhouse, they made me work there, I was kicked out and here I am."

"Long story short."

We chuckled.

"There's the butcher," I said.

"Ok, let's do it."'

Oliver walked to the butcher stand, snuck behind it and took a fresh pound of beef. He did put it in the basket we brought with us. Unfortunately, the butcher noticed.

"Hey! You boy!?"

We were being chased by him. He was faster than us, he grabbed a hold of us.

"What do you two think you're doing!?"

I made up a story.

"We're hungry Mr. Butcher, our family is very poor!"

Me and Oliver started to fake cry.

"Please sir," Oliver said.

"Stealing is wrong, no matter how poor you are!"

"Please sir, we need it bad, awful bad. We have no money and we're starving!"

"It's alright children, I'll tell you what? Let me give that meat to you, on the house, yeah?"

"Thank you sir, thank you so much!"

"No problem, I do feel sympathy for you poor people, even when children are involved."

"Again sir, thank you," I said.

He nodded as we walked away with our free beef.

We went back to the house and handed the meat to Fagin.

"Took you long enough, nice job."

"Thank you."

"What are we having Fagin?" I asked.

"Beef stew and dumplings, how does that sound?"

"Delicious!"
