"Shen Yue!  are you home?"

no reply. he was about to head towards the dining room/kitchen area when he heard some noise coming from upstairs. ah. she's gotta be in her room.

he bounded up the steps two at a time. and as he cleared the last ones, he spotted a flying object headed towards his head and quickly ducked. he silently thanked his excellent reflexes as he looked back and watched the offending object hit the door behind him with a clang and fell on the floor. before he could straighten his back, another object flew over his head. a porcelain thing this time and it broke into pieces as it hit the corner wall.

he raised his eyebrows and quickly surveyed the hallway. he whistled as he started processing his surroundings. various objects were laying across the floor. some were in pieces, others were intact but showed some marks of having hit a hard object. he looked at the wall and saw some paint had chipped and there was a dent on the wooden doorframe behind him.
okay. someone's having a bad day.

he made his way to her room, turning sideways when a stuffed dolphin came flying at him. as he got nearer, he could hear her muttering loudly to herself.
"WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?! UGH! THE NERVE TO CALL ME DRAMATIC?!?! I'LL SHOW THEM DRAMATIC! HOW DARE THEY!"

he peeked into her room and saw her grab a desk calendar. she was about to threw it so he quickly announced his presence.

"hey."

she looked surprised when she saw him but it was too late. her arm was already in mid-throw. the calendar flew and he ducked for the second time in the last five minutes.

she stood still and stared defiantly at him, as if challenging him to stop her from continuing whatever madness she was currently in the midst of. he brought his hands up and shook his head. she raised one questioning eyebrow and he lowered one hand to make the "go ahead" gesture. she narrowed her eyes and watched as he ambled his way to her bed and sat down.

he looked at her angry face and tried hard not to let a smile slip.

"redecorating? oh wait, are you doing that marie kondo thing and these things no longer bring you joy? but i do believe you're supp--"

"SHUT UP, DYLAN."

he grinned then. but quickly schooled his expression back to neutral when he saw her eyes narrowed further into slits and her hand moved to grab a hardcover book on her night stand.

"before you proceed, let me just say that this", he pointed to his face, "is insured and my company might sue if you damage it."

she let out an angry growl, pulled her hand back and flung the book down the hallway instead.

"GO AWAY."

"gladly. but are you sure you don't want any help cleaning up later? and before you answer, you should take a look at the scene in the hallway first."

she frowned and walked to the doorway. she stared at the mess she had created for a full minute (he counted!),  then she groaned. and it was as if the thought of cleaning up took the fight out of her because she moseyed to her bed and collapsed on top of it.

he lowered his upper body down next to hers and they laid there side by side. he nudged her arm.

"wanna talk about it?"

"no."

"okay."

"you're not gonna understand."

"okay. ... try me anyway."

"you're just gonna tell me to calm down."

"am i? i think you've calmed down enough, actually."

"you're gonna say i'm being dramatic too."

"hmm... you're one of the most level-headed person i know. for you to be this upset and destroy your possessions so recklessly, i'm pretty sure your rage is justified."

" ... you're gonna side with them and tell me to get over it."

"you know i'm always on your side, Shen Yue ..."

"i know."

"... even when you're wrong."

he felt her head jerk and he turned to see her giving him a sharp look. he chuckled.

"so, wanna tell me what happened?"

"no. ...not yet."

"okay."

neither of them spoke for a long time. they laid there staring at her ceiling until she suddenly snorted and turned to look at him.

"i can't believe you watch that marie kondo show."

author's note:

i was very angry today because of something that happened at work and i had so much unchanneled rage in me that i didnt know what to do with. then i remembered reading somewhere about channeling your energy, good or bad, into your art. so i did. i figure that if i cant be the one throwing things into a wall, then having a character do it instead is the next best thing.

i hope you enjoy reading this as much as i find the experience of writing my rage out, cathartic. happy weekend, everyone!
