"Happy birthday, beautiful.” I mumbled, while staring out the window at the gray, cloudy sky.
The world was almost as if it was silent today, like it was meant to be.
It’s early, about 7 AM, and last night was another restless night.
I stepped up and out of my chair, and quietly tip toed over to Chloe’s bed.
I stood over her, admiring how beautiful she is.
Her cuts are all clear, and her bruises have finally disappeared. She had a few scars, but she was beginning to look like Chloe again.
The Chloe I know. The Chloe that is filled with joy and fills others with it as well. The Chloe that is always smiling. The Chloe that’s up early and doing her makeup. The Chloe who’s beautiful without it. Not the Chloe that’s been asleep for 2 months.
I knelt down, and softly kissed her on her lips. They’re just how I remember, soft and sweet.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out the locket in the red box, and sat it on her stand by her bed.
I walked over to my chair, I’ve labeled it “mine” because it’s where I’ve been since Chloe’s been here, but before I sat down, I was startled by a constant beeping sound.
It’s her heart monitor.
The line has gone horizontally straight.
  She’s dying.
My heart dropped, and for a single second, I stood completely still.
  I ran into the hallway.
  “I need a nurse!” I screamed.
A nurse rushed into the room, and tears ran down my face.
The nurse was beating on her chest.
“Breathe Chloe! Fucking breathe!” I shouted. I ran my fingers through my hair.
Beep beep.
“Please baby... please live.. for me..” I begged.
Still nothing..
"Chloe!" I shouted.
"We need more!" The nurse yelled.
5 more came rushing in, and doing their best to keep her alive.
  And it worked.
Her heart monitor went back to normal.
I let out a giant relief breathe.
“Thank you.” I said whipping my tears and smiling down at her.
  And her eyes, flashed open.
  She’s awake.
  I began crying.
“Happy birthday beautiful.” I said smiling down at her.
She sat up, stared up at me for a few seconds and pulled me into a gigantic hug.
I’ve missed this, her arms around me.
I could feel her tears falling down on my shirt, but I didn’t care. My baby was back..

Chloe’s pov:

I could see the light, and I knew it was my time to go. I knew I had to, I knew that I had to stop fighting because I wasn’t meant to anymore.
I was with the nurse in the hospital room, not awake but I was. I heard her beating on my chest, and I heard Zach sobbing.
Zach. I had to get back to Zach.
I saw the light, but I didn’t go to it. I turned around and ran from it. I took every last breathe I had inside of me, and I fought.
I fought so hard, that I lived.
My eyes opened and it was as if I’d seen color for the first time.
“Happy birthday beautiful.” Zach said smiling down at me.
I stared at him for a moment, to appreciate his face.
I pulled him into a giant hug and bawled. I was soaking his shirt.
I pulled away and kissed him,
I missed kissing him...
“This is for you.” He said, picking up a red box with a bow on it.
  I opened it.
It was a locket, with a rose engraved on it.
“I love it!” I stated and then I cried some more.
I opened the locket, and inside was a picture of Zach and I.
I was sticking my tounge out, and he was looking at me like I was some type of goddess.
I pulled it close to my chest, and then had him put it on me.
The nurse came in, and said I’d have to spend a few more nights in the hospital and then I could go home.
I was excited to get home, I’ve missed everything. I missed being awake.
