Chapter 14:
Anticipation

Whispers and glares, nothing was new about them. Doesn't mean I didn't notice them, especially when two charming football players sat down next to me. It was as if they only intensified, like a spotlight was shinning down on me and suddenly everyone in the cafeteria had something to say.

"Do you make it a habit to zone out?" Hayden asked as he set his tray down next to mine.

I looked up from my mash potatoes, or what I thought were mash potatoes, and towards him. I shook my head as he sat down and smiled at me, Mike sat down on my other side.

"At least once a day." I joked.

"What were you thinking about?" Mike asked before he dug into his tater tots.

"You naked of course." I told him pretending to sound completely serious.

I heard a choking sound coming from Hayden, "Jesus."

"Trust me its probably better than your imagination." Mike said playing along with my joke, making it seem like I didn't catch him off guard.

I rolled my eyes, "Now mike I never said it was such a sight to see." I told him as I patted his hand.

That only caused Hayden to laugh really loud, if everyone in the cafeteria's eyes weren't on us before, they sure were now. I looked from Mike's annoyed face to Hayden's amused one, I liked how Hayden looked when he laughed. His eyes became shut and when he laughed his perfectly annoying teeth showed. How did someone look even more attractive when they laughed?

"Oh shut it both of you." Mike grumbled before taking a drink of his water.

"Anyways," Hayden said as he wiped the tears from his eyes, "Enough talk about mike being naked, I want to actually eat my lunch."

I nodded in agreement before moving around the blob of food around my tray, "So when do you guys find out if you made the football team? I mean surely you two did."

    "Friday before school." Mike answered.

"Thank god, if you said next week I'd die of anticipation." I told them.

"You'd be stressed?" Hayden asked giving me a smirk.

I rolled my eyes, "Well duh, that's like me doing something and waiting forever for the results."

"You'd be stressed for the results or if your two favorite people didn't get in?" Mike asked now, his question was more in a teasing tone.

"I..." the bell then rang, "Saved by the bell!" I exclaimed before jumping out of my seat.

I threw away my trash and left the cafeteria before Mike or Hayden could catch up. Fourth period was my favorite period, mostly cause it was my free period and I got to spend it with my best friend. Today all we did was go to Barnes and Noble, one of our favorite places to go.

One thing I loved about Parker was he was like me in a way, a total nerd. Except he was way smarter, and no one would know unless they were in honor roll or all his AP classes. Parker wasn't known to people as being incredibly smart, he was a good looking baseball player to them. A Jock. But he was never that person around me, he was Parker.
