"I'd prefer not to shoot, but I will."

"So, who are you anyway?" I spoke up to the boy next to me. I was unable to study any of his features in detail due to the darkness, but I could tell that he must've been somewhere in his teens. Maybe my age or a little older, but I wasn't sure.

"Well, my name's Dallas Winston." He spoke with confidence.

"Oh, cool." I answered nonchalantly.

"I'm surprised there wasn't more of a reaction." He sounded amused and I was confused.

"Oh, sorry? I don't know, should I know who you are?"

"You ain't from around here, are you?"

"No. Just stopping by for a bit. Can't stick around too long though." I nervously shoved my hands in my pockets. I didn't like being questioned, mostly because I didn't know what questions were safe to answer. I was still on the run after all.

He didn't ask any more questions thankfully and I felt relieved.

We soon made it to a beat up looking building and there was red lights glowing from inside. I could hear booming music and people socializing.

I could picture June coming here.

I was about to enter the building with this Dallas kid when I heard a familiar voice.

"What are you doing?" June's voice giggled, accompanied by a male's voice.

"Nothin, sweetheart."

Dallas and I exchanged glances.

"That sounds like my friend." Without waiting for an answer from him, I slowly crept towards the sound.

I saw June sat on the hood of a car with a man standing dangerously close. I couldn't help but panic inside. I remembered what happened last time she was intoxicated and near a man.

"I'm feeling a little sick, can you back up?" June asked, her eyes half lidded. She was clearly very drunk.

"Shh..." The man shushed her softly, his hands travelling to her thighs. I grimaced.

Dallas was standing behind me and he saw the same thing as me.

"Hey, asshole!" I yelled. The man looked over at me. "You heard her, get your filthy hands off of her!"

"Please kid, you're getting involved in somethin that's not your business."

"Considering that's a close friend, I believe it is my business." I crossed my arms. He scoffed.

"Wow, you got me shaking. You're a child, I ain't gonna take orders from you!" His grip tightened on June and she winced. I couldn't help but be mad at everyone in this situation. I was mad at this man for laying a finger on June, I was mad at June for wandering off, and I was mad at myself for allowing this to happen again.

I pulled the gun on him. I wasn't going to shoot, but I was going to make sure he would listen.

"You ain't gonna take orders from me? How about now, motherfu-"

"Y/n, don't kill another guy!" June whined. My eyes widened as I stared at her in shock. She couldn't go saying that!

"Shut up, June! You don't know what you're talking about!" I snapped. The man holding her laughed.

"A little murderer, huh? I doubt it, you probably just want attention."

"Step back from her, alright? We won't have a problem if you leave her alone."

Dallas had emerged from the shadows and didn't seem phased by the events playing out. Then again, this didn't seem like a safe place and he seemed tough. He probably saw shit like this on the daily.

"You won't do shit."

I aimed the gun close to his foot, shooting the ground next to him. Everyone flinched.

"I'd prefer not to shoot, but I will." I shrugged. The man shoved June away, causing her to stumble to the ground. I held the gun up to the man still, waiting for him to leave.

"Fine, it ain't worth my time." He muttered, stumbling away. Once he was out of sight I turned to June, anger boiling up inside of me.

"What the hell were you thinking, June?!" I yelled, taking off her jacket and violently throwing it at her. She giggled.

"I was just trying to have fun! You're such a party pooper for a sixteen year old..." She slurred. I scoffed.

"And you're irresponsible for a twenty year old, but I keep my mouth shut about it!" I retorted. The gun now hung loosely in my hand at my side.

"Awe, that's mean!" June pouted and I groaned, knowing there was no getting through to her when she was drunk.

"Come on, we're going back to the motel." I spoke sternly and June frowned.

"Awe, but it's boring there-"

"I don't wanna hear it. What are you, a little kid? We're leaving." I demanded. She knew I was serious and heaved a sigh, stumbling over to me now. I wrapped my arm around her waist to support her and she slung an arm around my shoulder, still cackling drunkenly.

"You're a real brat sometimes." I muttered and she leaned her head on top of mine.

"I know, but I love you~" She sang. I ran my free hand over my face, struggling to stay mad at her.

I looked at Dallas who had been leaning against the wall, smoking as he watched everything play out.

"Thanks for helping me find her." I awkwardly spoke. He glanced at me for a moment, then went back to staring out into the street.

"Don't sweat it. Will I see you around?" He answered coolly.

"Maybe, maybe not."

After our small conversation, I left, taking a drunk June with me.
