"You are an independent magic knight!??? I never heard of one!" The oddly looking magic knight exclaimed. He rectified his asymmetrical glasses and enlarged his blue orbs like so. "You aren't wearing any magic knight squad robe!"

"So? Any problem with that?" I casually stated while crossing my firm arms against my chest. Okay, I don't see any problem with being independent.

"Well... no. But how are you a magic knight if you are not a bona fide member of any squad in the Clover Kingdom?" What is it to him? This mage is a meddler.

"I am a magic knight because I am a magic knight. I do not need a squad to call myself a magic knight."

I waved my lengthy robe fabulously and turned my back away from the interrogative magic knight. Sheesh, way to ruin such a wonderful day.

Perhaps you are all wondering who I really am. I am Olivier Reverie Nightingale, a Grand Magic Knight. The rank, grand magic knight, is oftenly referred to all the squad captains. Natheless, I am no captain. Needless to say, I am also an independent mage who is not under any squad to begin with.

Julius Novachrono, the Wizard King, is a great friend of mine. He may be way too superior, but he's a close friend of someone such as myself. Besides, he plays a fatherly figure in my life.

Unlike other magic knights, I wasn't admitted into order just like them. They undergo a selection process and I was personally handpicked by King Kira Clover and the Wizard King themselves. I have shown my magic prowess and they have seem to take interest to it.

I wore a long golden robe with golden details on its ends. It had the insignia of the Clover Kingdom on its middle back and in front, I have the badge of a grand magic knight. Without the symbol of a squad, that is.

I am a royal of House Nightingale. A rather idiosyncratic royal family which is known for its family members' formidable magic strength and capacity. I, presumably, can tell that every member of the family is definitely tremendous magic-wise and skill-wise.

I roamed around the capital to search for lots of things to spend my money on, far and wide. Jewelry, weapons, clothes, shoes, and so forth --- had filled my bag of expenditures.

If you are pondering about what sort of  magic made me climb the ranks of a grand magic knight, I'd cut to the chase and tell it myself.

I use goddess magic.

Because esoterically speaking, I am a goddess myself. House Nightingale is a family comprised of Gods and Goddesses, which is why they have overflowing mana that prevailed over others.

My grimoire is white, with a four-leaf clover in front. Just by merely having my grimoire in your presence brings tingles onto your body because of the exceptionally powerful mana it has and like so, myself.

"Is that you, Olivier?" Hmmm, familiar... And who might this one be?

Goodness! It's the Wizard King!

I immediately salute and made a straight face. No matter how irreverent of a person can I be towards human beings, the Wizard King is worth earning my respect to the point that I will do this salute wholeheartedly in front of him, in front of many people.

In which case...

"Yes sir, I am Olivier." I smiled apathetically and hauled down my fingers. "Sir, If I may ask, what are you doing in the royal capital alone? Where is Marx to go along with you?" Well, he might be meandering around like I am doing, but he shouldn't wander alone.

"Oh, nothing special. How about you? As far as I can call to mind, your time is very limited and you might have more work to deal with compared to mine. Do you happen to traverse the market as well, Olivier?" He let out a faint chuckle and grinned. Well, true. I am quite the busy person.

"Oh sir, I happen to find time despite a stockpile of papers to sign." I tilted my head and smiled outwardly. A busy person needs leisure as well, you know? "And yes, I felt the need to traipse around the market."

"Well then, I hope you wouldn't mind, you can come with me!" Sir Julius jovially insists. I already finished buying my needs a few minutes ago... but I couldn't decline. He might need my selective artistry in fashion sense!

"I would be glad to, sir." I cracked a smile and bowed slightly at the wizard king.

"Say, Olivier..." The Wizard King trailed off and faintly scratched his cheek with his long and slender fingers. "Why didn't you join in any magic knight squad? If you were to undergo the selective magic knights exam, I am certain that all the captains will raise their hand for you."

Really? Right now, sir?

Before I got the chance to answer, Sir Julius started to state his assumption. "Or do you happen to hold a grudge on some of the captains?"

Eek. "Of course not, sir! It's just that..." I took a deep breath and smiled anyway. "It's just that this controversy about commoner---noble---royal thing has been infuriating me incessantly." There's more to it. However, this is the main reason why I can't stand to join forces with the other captains and other magic knights.

"Huh? How so? Please elaborate." I always hated to explain, but I guess this is an obligation. I really need to let this out.

"A tad number of royals and nobles had frequently picked on commoners as if they are useless rats. I had always carried the urge of attempting to change such practice of my fellow royals and nobles alike, yet I couldn't because their pride and ego always get the best of them." I sighed and peeked at the blue sky, then I continued. "They tyrannize the commoners as they presume that they are always above them. True, they are a step ahead of commoners in terms of wealth and power. However, there's a vast number of commoners who can overshadow the royals and nobles magic-wise. For instance, Yuno and Asta." I despised such foul treatment. And despite how great can I elucidate my insight, I could never bring myself to really make a difference among statuses.

"Good point, Olivier. I am proud of you." To my surprise, the wizard king shuffled my hair and made a large grin. He really looks like a father to me haha. I shot a smile back, and then Sir Julius continued to speak. "To be honest, I, myself had seeked to do the same thing. But due to countless dillemas to be dealt with, I have never brought up the issue ever since."

A small curve formed from my lips. With that, I resumed to discuss. "The whole thing enraged me. I witnessed this before, and I feel like I couldn't handle it if the same case were to take place once again. A magic knight squad is a group coalesced to strengthen bonds and teamwork amongst its members. Nonetheless, how could that happen if the others neglect the other? Herewith, I had made up my mind to stand up alone. And rise alone."

"I see, things seem so easy to comprehend now that you had clarified the unclear circumstances." He held his chin and unleashed a faint simper. "You are befitting to be a promising leader, Olivier."

"Howbeit, I do not wish to lead anybody sir. I desire to protect this kingdom but not to team up with anybody but myself and my magic."

"You carry the fear of being discriminated, don't you, Olivier?" My eyes expanded. Is it really that? A royal is unlikely to be ruled despotically... "It's rather sardonic that you pinpoint the disproportion amongst regions likewise the lack of teamwork but you cannot bring yourself to conspire with the others as well." He giggled which made me fluster. That's the reason why...?

Nevertheless, "I refuse to concur with others because once I witness this type of tyranny, I would freeze and will be powerless to help. That is why." I lowered my head in slight embarassment.

I have so many problems, and why is this the biggest?

"My, my, Olivier..." Sir Julius patted my back and wore a plastered grin. This man sure smiles a lot. What a happy person.

"Why not come along with me to the Banquet tomorrow in celebration of the Royal Knights' selection. It's a must to socialize more, is it not, Reverie?"
