It was always explained as swimming rather than dreaming. It took a lot of effort to connect with the mind of someone so far away. Heck, it could even be qualified as a right passage. One that Rougeoyer didn't even know existed, so all he was doing at the beginning was panicking, thinking he was drowning in his own mind. It took himself a few seconds to realize that he was just sleeping. Hopefully at least, it seemed a little pathetic to die in his own mind. It was his world, darn it, and he would own it.

Paddling, Rougeoyer instinctively swam upwards to look for air until he saw other dragons, some familiar Flos and Luminbrille in his village, and others whom he had never seen before, with the exception of the Caelums. They all swam down with all their might, and as Rougeoyer followed their direction, he found out why.

A bright light called them into the depths of what seemed to be their linked mind. It seemed to hurt the Luminbrilles' eyes due to their sensitivity, but it wasn't difficult to adjust. Rougeoyer began his descent towards the light and found other dragons pulling away, heading back upwards. Maybe their will was not strong enough or some mystical stupidity. Rougeoyer tried to pay no attention to the failing dragons, as they reminded him of how much his lungs burned.

Rougeoyer began wishing he was one of those water dwelling dragons that must've also been going through this process to unite with their Cheruds. In fact, it'd would be logical for them to have already be connected. Of course, this theory was destroyed once Rougeoyer turned to his side, spotting a finned dragonet struggling to swim down, just as he was. They weren't breathing either, so it was a nice touch of fairness in Rougeoyer's eyes.

But everything began to hurt again. His muscles and lungs begged the Luminbrille to halt his efforts. Rougeoyer had been promising himself that he was almost there, but the light just seemed to stay the same distance away the whole time.

Just turn back, cried temptation, you've never even cared about anything so dumb before. Just wake up and sleep.

Screw you, this is my destiny, Rougeoyer countered, I ain't letting dragons die because my muscles hurt.

Then again, I won't even make it if my lungs explode, spoke a small voice in the back of his mind.

Rougeoyer slowed. Was it really worth his death to save dragons he's never even heard of before? Rougeoyer closed his eyes to flush out the light and began letting his body rise.

I'm tired and alone. Maybe this current can take me away so I'll never have to deal with anything again.

Cold talons gripped his arms and urged him downwards, causing Rougeoyer to snap his eyes open and wrangle himself out of the grasp out of sheer instinct. He turned his attention towards the owner of the talons and found the pink form of Amaryllis staring back. Her eyes spoke sorrow and determination. Rougeoyer felt ashamed and turned away. Amaryllis nudged his snout with her own and gripped his paw with her own claws. Rougeoyer's sensitive feelers felt her wingbeats as she began attempting to bring him towards the light again. She wasn't going to give up on him, so was it fair that he did?

Rougeoyer turned back towards Amaryllis, ignoring the fire in his chest, and gripped her other arm and wrapped them around his neck. If he wasn't going to make it, he would not let Amaryllis die because of it. So, with him now holding on, the dragons began swimming towards the light once again, with new found determination. Amaryllis realized what he was doing and gripped tighter, flapping her wings for bursts of speed. And for once in the entire time they were in this world, they made progress to the light until they could see nothing but white.
