"Hurry up!"
"What do you need?"
"I've already told you! Corn nuts!"
"Fine!"

I find my eyes rolling to the back of my head as I enter the gas station store. This is what I'm talking about. The constant: "do this! Do that!" Not even: "could you do me a massive favour, Veronica?" They always use the "best friend" excuse against me but they don't even treat me like a friend. I'm just someone who goes places with them so that I get humiliated and they don't. Sure, I get a little bit of a rep with them, but that's only because people are petrified of them!

Corn nuts? I pick a pack of bq, that's what she usually gets, and sigh as I turn towards the counter. I wish I had someone else to actually be my friend.

Suddenly, I hit what seems to be a wall, until I look up.
"Oops, I'm sorry," oh no! What have I done?
"Oh my god! I am so sorry!" I feel the cold slush run onto my shoes as it drips from his chest where I caused him to spill it. I step back, away from the embarrassment and grab around 20 tissues, from the hot dog stand. As I throw them into his chest, trying to clean the stains, he takes my wrists in his hands and stops me.

Damn.

"Relax, it's just a slushie," I smirk as i look down upon her. Who knew fate would bring me this close to her so soon?
"Man," she pulls away from my grasp and places her hand on her forehead, "I'm such an idiot!"
"Now who told you that?" Her eyes aline with mine, as if she didn't expect me to respond so quickly. "It's just," I rub the back of my neck, why is she the only girl Ive ever gotten nervous around? "I'd like to tell them different," I smirk and she buries her head in the ground as she laughs.
"I don't know I mean," her blue eyes captivate my attention. They glisten, even in this shitty gas station lightning! She amazes me, "I saw how you handled that thing in the caff today," she raises her eyebrows. Shit! I thought she didn't see that. Then again, it is a school; at least one of the things that never change are people spreading everything around. And she's probably the first to hear it, considering all of her "friends".

"Well, I suspected those guys were assholes and you don't look like one so, do you wanna slushie?"  I attempt to change the subject.
"And how do I know you're not one of those assholes?" Quick, that's cute.
"Well it looks like you spend your days with them so I'd hope you'd be able to tell the difference," I watch as she begins to burn red under her pale complexion, "cherry or coke?"
"Cherry," she smiles, throwing her head down yet again.

Once I dispense two large cups, I lean against the counter and hand her hers.
"So, I'm guessing you've clearly heared my name from whatever gossip trails around that school?"
"I don't know, JD," she giggles, "why don't you tell me?"
"Only if you tell me yours," I smirk.
"Well I'm Veronica. Veronica Sawyer," she smiles, half confident, half embarrassed.
"Then I am Jason Dean. It's a pleasure to meet you, Veronica," i hold out my hand for her to shake, causing her to take it lightly, emphasising a weak shake as she laughs with her eyes falling to the floor.
"Why do you do that?" I ask, curious about her insecurity.
"Do what?"
"You hang your head low when you laugh or smile. Why?" I smile to her face and she does exactly as I say as she laughs, causing me to giggle, "see! You're doing it right now!"
"Well, I don't know," she says as she lifts her head back up, smiling.
"I don't know why you would either, I mean, look at that smile," I stare in awe. God, she's gorgeous.
"No, please don't," although she talks negatively, her smile remains.
"Why don't you take your compliment, hey? I'm only saying your beautiful," I take a sip of my slush and gulp it down, along with everything else I want to say to her.
"And how would you know that, Jason Dean?" She pronounces my name in a way that sends shivers down my spine as she steps closer to me.

"Veronica!" A voice demands from outside, causing her to turn in shock but sigh as she returns to me.
"I better go," she frowns. I don't want her to frown, she looks too pretty when she smiles. Quickly, she gathers her things from the counter and begins to walk towards the door before I grab her by the wrist.
"Veronica, wait," she twists herself inside of my arm and stares at me as I softly look at her, from my height. It takes a couple of seconds before she begins to speak,
"JD, what are you-" and I cut her off. Pressing my lips to hers, I feel her shock for a moment before she reacts, moving her lips back against mine. We pull back for air and I send a worried expression through my eyes, hers still looking at me, shocked.
"Veronica I'm sor-" And she uses my trick. Pushing onto her toes, her lips intimately move against mine this time. My hands roam through her hair and hers cup along my face.

"Veronica!!!"
"God," she pulls away again, placing the odd peck along my lips, "I'm sorry, I better...  go," she laughs as I playfully pull back on her hips, before finally breaking through the door.
"I'll see you later?"
"Definitely!"
"But where?"
"You're a smart guy, figure it out for yourself!"

Hard to get. I like it.
