At the comment Sal tenses up, not moving a single muscle as he stands there and stares forwards, the gear boy making noises and flashing green and blue and red lights is visible in his peripheral vision. He didn't say anything or move any of his body until he saw there gear boy burst into flames on his dresser and he jumped back.
"Shit!" He yells into the phone, repeating the word multiple times after that.
"Dad! Dad!" He calls out, dropping the phone and attempting at finding water, but the fire is spreading now and smoke is rising. He grabs his prosthetic, his glass eye and his phone before leaving the room in a hurry.
The fire alarms ring in his ears loudly as he wanders around the living room blindly trying to find Gizmo. His father is already with him and is yelling for Sal to get out.
"Gizmo! There you are!" He exclaimed as he scooped him up and sprinted to the front door. At that both Sal and his dad booked it down the stairs, Sals prosthetic was loosely wrapped around his face and his glass eye was in, but facing the wrong direction in his eye socket. They made it outside, helping all the other residents out as well. Sal saw Travis waiting in the grass out front for Sal and ran towards him, pulling him tightly into a hug and watching as the building continued to set up in flames.
"I already called 9-1-1," Travis said, yelling it to the rest of the residents as well. Mrs Addison came outside too, wrapped firmly in a blanket that only revealed his eyes, like an Eskimo almost.
When the fire truck arrived just moments later, most all of the residents were frightened to an extend by the fire. However, what was odd was the lack of damages to anywhere other than Sal and Henry's apartment. The fire seemed to have stopped abruptly after the walls that separated Sal apartment from the rest.
Everyone stared at the buildings in a mix of confusion and amazement as the fire stopped abruptly, the light caused by the flames slowly fading into darkness. There was a long moment of silence.
Sal was the first person to speak what they were all thinking,
"Alright, What the fuck just happened?"
Nobody replied, as if they were in a trance with their eyes fixated on the building. Travis had his arms wrapped tightly around Sal, rubbing Sal's forearms lightly.
"I second that thought." Robert finally said from the grassy place where he was sat. Sal glanced around at the rest of his friends, Larry was huddled in his moms arms slightly awkwardly with his long lengthy legs and arms. Todd was on the phone, Sal could vaguely make out his conversation, but a lot of it seemed in clear. He was able to make out-
"Please, I'm scared- n- get o- here now!"
It sounded as though Todd was talking to Neil, and after a few more words Todd said that thought was confirmed, a long with the fact Todd was sobbing into the phone.
All of the fire people emerged from the building and approached the residents huddled in the grass. A tall bulky man was the first to speak.
"Most of the building is fine, it seems only floor four has been affected by the fire. I would recommend you go back to your apartment." At that all of the residents shuffled inside hastily. All except for Sal, Henry and Larry.
"You dude, you alright? You just lost everything." Larry said approaching Sal. Sal simply nodded, contemplating everything. He wasn't about to cry, he didn't want that now. Larry pursed his lips and his mom motioned him inside.
"Call me and tell me what your gonna do." He said as he walking inside.
Sal stood up from Travis's arms and looked at Henry.
"So, what's gonna happen now?" He asked, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"We uh- we could find someone to stay with until tomorrow. Tomorrow we uh- can figure this shit out." Henry looked around at the practically empty field. Travis stared at up at Henry and stood from his place on the grass.
"Do you want me to call my mom maybe? You could stay at my place, I-I'm almost sure of it," Travis said softly. He hadn't ever had a good full conversation with Henry, so talking to him properly for the first time was a little awkward. Henry looked at Travis, they needed somewhere to stay, and the blonde seems to be their only option.
"Alright, call your mom Travis."
Travis made a quick phone call and his mom seemed panicked and worried as soon as she heard the situation. After getting permission to stay with Travis, the group walked slowly over. Sal could feel hot tears welling in his eyes the entire time. He held gizmo tight in his skinny arms and dragged his feet on the ground as he walked, hearing the gravel fly with each step.
It was only a few moments later when they arrived at Travis's place. Standing outside Sal felt lost. He wanted to go home, back to the apartments. It was weird. When he had first moved in to the crappy exude for an apartment building all he wanted to do was leave. But now he couldn't imagine losing what was no longer his.
Alright guys. Sorry it took so long to update. There's a lot I needed to work out and I really felt shit about it before. But I like it now. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. As always, see ya later,
