I have a few hours before I have to meet them at the grotto.

I want to go home for a while.

Later tonight I'll be at Nikki's party.

I have to find a way to explain that to mom.

I walked inside and heard the tv on in her room.

"Mom?" I called out.

A moment later she came out of her room.

She smiled seeing me.

"Hey honey." She said walking over to hug me.

I hugged her back.

"Can I stay the night at Rowan's?" I asked.

She let me go and looked at me like I was crazy.

"Rowan? The officers daughter?" She asked.

I nodded.

"You don't want to stay here? Talk to me about anything that's bugging you?" She asked.

I see what she's doing.

"Mom, don't treat me different. Please. I'm still me." I mumbled.

She gave me a small sad smile.

"I should have known. A mother should always know. I should have protected you. I sent you straight into his arms. I can never be sorry enough baby-" she was tearing up.

She thinks I blame her?

She blames herself?

I started to tear up and I wiped my eyes quickly.

"Mom this is not your fault. It's not. I had a problem and you wanted to help me. You couldn't have known how sick he was. He was good at hiding it. Please don't blame yourself. Blame him. He did this." I said firmly.

She sobbed and wiped her eyes.

"You're so strong baby. I wish I could have known. Saved you from that pain." She said smiling at me sadly.

"Enough of this sad shit. Wanna watch some Disney?" I asked laughing.

She laughed too.

"Of course. I'll make popcorn. You go pick the movie in the living room." She said walking to the kitchen.

I walked to the living room and looked at our Disney selections.

Peter Pan? No.

Little mermaid? Nope.

Lion king? Another time.

A huge smile broke out as I saw my favorite Disney movie.

Mulan.

What a queen she is.

"Mulan?" I called out as I smelt the popcorn and heard the popping.

"You will always pick that won't you?" Mom called back.

I chuckled.

"She saved China!" I shouted defensively.

I put it in and heard mom sit down on the couch.

I went and sat next to her.

We curled up to one another and she held the popcorn in her lap.

She pushed play and the movie started.

This was nice.

This was how life should be.

How it will be when this is all over.
