It had been a bit over a week since my birthday and everything that happened that day. Cheryl had been much happier with the return of her sister and her confidence had been improving. One thing that helped was getting accepted to have a booth at the art fair. The art fair was tomorrow and our booths were going to be on different sides of the gym, but we knew that it would be fine.
The sound of skipping feet hurried toward me as I finished putting my books in my locker for the day. My cheek was then met with a pair of warm lips that sent a subtle shiver down my spine.
Gigging softly I turned to Cheryl. "Hey, babe."
"Hey! I missed you," she smiled.
     "I missed you too."
The door of my locker closed with its loud crash and then my hand found its usual place in Cheryl's.
"How was the rest of your day?"
"Pretty good! I finally finished all of my make-up work from when I was out and then—"
"Hey, red," Lindsey said as she walked up behind us.
Cheryl turned around with confusion written across her face. "Um, hi?"
My grip on Cheryl's hand tightened as I said, "What do you want, Lindsey?"
"I want this four-eyed freak away from you, babe. You know you don't love—"
"Wow this is just pathetic," Cheryl chuckled. "How many times does Toni have to explain to you that you guys are through? She loves me and you're stupid for leaving the best thing that ever happened to you."
I blinked a few times in shock over the fact that Cheryl stood her ground, but I knew this probably wouldn't end well. "Babe lets go. You don't have to prove anything to her."
Lindsey then smirked. "Oh, I know." Her smug look remained on her face as she moved between us and shoved Cheryl away, her shoes squeaking as she stumbled.
Eyes were drawn toward us as I began to shake away Lindsey's arm. Cheryl then ambled back to me and returned her hand to mine, attempting to take the high road.
"Uh, Toni? You going to do anything?" Lindsey asked, arms folded upon her chest.
"Nope."
We made it to the end of the hall and I pushed one of the double doors open and Cheryl and I were met with the brisk winter air.
"Well that was interesting," Cheryl said after we were seated in her car.
"Yeah. She's really jealous of you."
"Well, that's her own fault. If she wanted to be your girlfriend she already had you, she was the one that ruined it."
"I'm glad she did though. You and I probably wouldn't be together now if I was still with her, and you've made me happier than I've ever been," I smiled.
Cheryl smiled back and then leaned over the console to press a soft kiss to my lips. "As long as you're happy, I'm happy too."
The car engine then came to life as Cheryl turned the key, providing us with soft music, warm air, and a calming buzz. Once we buckled up, Cheryl pulled out of the parking space and we began our drive to my apartment.
