Janet

Driving around town, I could not believe what perspired during the reading of the will. It wasn't like me to blow out of proportion, in front of my family. My business was only for my knowledge, and yelling at Toni, I felt overwhelmed; just feeling pressured to be at my breaking point, so I could talk about my issues. Seeing my sisters again is the same reason why I can't stand to see them. All because of drama.

Free Yourself by Fantasia blasted through my car's radio, as I traveled through Buckhead county. Singing along through tears, I didn't realize the time was now five o'clock. I've been on the road for about two hours now, felt the need to go back home. Seeing my gas tank nearing empty, I found the nearest gas station. Looking through my bag, I searched for my wallet, taking out two fifty dollar bills.

Going inside the station, I grabbed a water bottle and noticed a man just staring at me, who looked kind've familiar. About to pay for the water, the man had called my name.

"Janet?" The guy had spoken. Turing my body towards his direction, I knew exactly who he was.

"Elliot Matthews,"

A smile crept up on his face, which displayed his rosy cheeks

A smile crept up on his face, which displayed his rosy cheeks. It's been at least twenty years since I've last seen him or heard from him. He were on the verge of dating, but he got sick and moved away. Until this day, I never knew what happened to him. It wasn't my business to ask.

"You still look the same–even more beautiful." He indeed was charming, highly intelligent, but most of all — kind. I considered him a very good friend of mine. He would always cheer me up, especially when I suffered from my self-esteem issues.

I was starting to get tired, but I definitely wanted to go back home. Elliot could tell that I was becoming a bit agitated. It was nice seeing an old friend, who cared about me. I left high school with a handful of friends, but we all just drifted apart.

"Here's my number, you're more than welcome to call me." Grabbing the paper from his hand, I gave him a soft smile, which led him to hugging me. Lord knows that I am tired of being lonely. Noticing no ring on his finger, I assumed he was single, and I definitely was ready to mingle.

Giving the cashier the money for gas, I took the water bottle heading to my car. Pumping the gas, I couldn't help but daydream about Elliot. He was truly a great guy, and someone I was starting to love. Him moving away was something that bothered my for a good while. Of course he had no control over it, but it still hurt me.

Being done with the gas pump, I closed the gas compartment door, and entered in the car. Pulling off, I couldn't stop looking at Elliot's number. It was maybe fate that brought us back together. As crazy as it sounds, I want to be in a relationship. I've been single for way too long, and maybe, who knows? I could be a mother, who has two loving parents in a household.

Trying my best to text and drive, I added Elliot's number in my phone.

Hey, this is Janet. :)

The smiley face? I'm so embarrassed. Placing my phone in the cup holder, I hopped on the highway back to Whitney's house. I've got so much on my plate dealing with this family of mine, I don't even want to see them.

My phone vibrating signaled that Elliot had texted back. Unlocking the phone, he sent a photo causing me to burst out in laughter.

Remember this?

I completely forgot about the project we had to do as our final for senior year. Dressing up as Janet Jackson was very creative, and both Elliot and I received an A.

The good times. I miss high school! 😩

Well...I miss you.

Damn.
