Just as your choice of an image can impact the feel of your cover, so can your choice of a font. If you choose something that is off genre you'll confuse readers. And if you're going to tell me fonts don't have a genre, you're wrong. Google fantasy fonts, or steampunk fonts, dystopian fonts, you'll find many in each genre.

If your image screams 'this is a romance book' and your font is saying, 'oh no this is a horror book' readers might scratch their head and move on without trying to figure out exactly what your book is about.

A script font usually conveys romance, but our image and title convey the opposite to a reader. It tells them this is probably dystopian, horror, or a thriller, it definitely doesn't shout romance as the font choice for the title does. You want to be careful what font you choose to represent your story to potential readers. People have very short attention spans and they are, in general, lazy creatures, if your cover isn't going to tell them what they need to know then they'll walk away.

The font you pick will tell a story of its own, whether you want to believe that or not, it's the truth. Below is an example of how a font can change how you look at a sentence and the inflection you put to it when you read it.

Tahoma ... yawn, sure ok we'll be together whatever. It's a very boring choice.

Alansky ... I love you too sweetheart! Yes, we are forever! Sweet and romantic.

Chiller ... omg get away from me you psycho!  This is suddenly a serial killer/stalker situation.

Font choice matters so pay attention when choosing the font that will help represent your book.
