I can only play the piano part, and I'm used to playing with her. But I do my best, even with the skeletons watching me.

"And your heart is meant to stay inside your chest until it breaks
And when it does, oh on that day, I will not run
But I will stay
But I will stay"

I remember when she sang that to me for the first time.

"And I will be your moon when you're too close to the sun
And I will be your wolf stand beside you as you run
And when it gets too cold you and I will build a home
Made of simple sticks and stones
And your fur will keep me warm
And my fur will keep you warm
 "

I forget about the people listening.

"And your song is meant to be up in the sky where all the angels sing
And when it's time for us to leave
We will shine bright,
For all the world to see
For all the world to see"

My eyes burn. I miss her.

And I will be your moon when you're too close to the sun
And I will be your wolf stand beside you as you run
And when it gets too cold you and I will build a home
Made of simple sticks and stones
And your fur will keep me warm
And my fur will keep you warm

And your fur will keep me warm
And my fur will keep you warm
And my fur will keep you warm"

I'm almost crying. I miss her. A warm hand is on my shoulder. Ink and Blue are clapping. "MORE!" I shake my head and look pleadingly at Dream. He gets the message.

"I think we should leave her alone for now. You'll be alright, won't you?" His eyes are worried, but I am relieved. I nod. They leave me in the perfect bedroom. I lay back on the bed, blue silk crumpling around me.

I don't know how I kept her out of my mind for so long. Now she is the only thing I can think of.

I stand and walk over to the piano. My bare feet are silent in the soft blue carpet. I look up at the ceiling, strewn with stars and a full moon. I glance back down and a piece of familiar sheet music sits in front of me. I smile.

I press down on the keys and begin to sing in a deep, rich voice. My magic curls up and swims around me as tears begin to drip down my cheeks. I loved- no love her. Forever.

In the spring we made a boat

Out of feathers, out of bones.

We set fire to our homes,
Walking barefoot in the snow.

Distant rhythm of the drum
As we drifted towards the storm.
Baby lion lost his teeth,
Now they're swimming in the sea.

Troubled spirits on my chest
Where they laid to rest.
The birds all left, my tall friend,
As your body hit the sand.

Million stars up in the sky
Formed a tiger's eye
That looked down on my face,
Out of time and out of place.

So hold on.
Hold on to what we are.
Hold on to your heart.

La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la

Awakened by the sound
Of a screaming owl.
Chasing leaves in the wind,
Going where we've never been.

Said goodbye to you, my friend,
As the fire spread.
All that's left are your bones
That will soon sink like stones.

So hold on.
Hold on to what we are.
Hold on to your heart.

La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la

So hold on.
Hold on to your heart."

I bow my head in memory and become aware of someone standing beside me. Dream.

"Who were they?" He asks gently. How did he know? "She... Her name was Agape. She was human, but also not. Therian. Owlkin, I think." I smile faintly. "She was kind and clever and practical and..." I trail off.

He tilts his head and me and grins. "Can you show me?" I hesitate. "I don't know if I know enough songs without the music..." He doesn't seem to care. He points in front of us. "what about that one?"

The sheet music has switched. "It's a duet," I say. "Yes. May I have the honour of playing with you?" he asks. I shrug. "I guess." So we play together.

(Italics are Melanie, bold is Dream. :))

"Once upon a younger year
When all our shadows disappeared
The animals inside came out to play
Went face to face with all our fears
Learned our lessons through the tears
Made memories we knew would never fade"

One day my father — he told me
"Son, don't let it slip away"
He took me in his arms, I heard him say
"When you get older
Your wild heart will live for younger days
Think of me if ever you're afraid"

He said: "One day you'll leave this world behind
So live a life you will remember"
My father told me when I was just a child
These are the nights that never die
My father told me

When thunder clouds start pouring down
Light a fire they can't put out
Carve your name into those shining stars
He said: "Go venture far beyond the shores
Don't forsake this life of yours
I'll guide you home, no matter where you are"

One day my father — he told me
"Son, don't let it slip away"
When I was just a kid, I heard him say
"When you get older
Your wild heart will live for younger days
Think of me if ever you're afraid"

He said: "One day you'll leave this world behind
So live a life you will remember"
My father told me when I was just a child
These are the nights that never die
My father told me

These are the nights that never die
My father told me
My father told me
