I didn't want to go. It was too far from my home. But I had no choice...

I am 8 years old, a y/r named Y/n. My parents take really good care of me, which I'm thankful of, seeing all the homeless children on the streets just breaks my heart. I am normally a playful and nice girl. I learned if I'm nice to people, they're nice back.

I was in my room, reading a book about the Dark Elves in a far away place. I found Dark Elves scary, yet interesting. I looked up from my book when I smelled something burning. My eyes widened when I saw my candle on my desk had fallen over, the wax spilling everywhere. I realized the fire was spreading, and saw the flames grow as they found their way to my book collection. I screamed and ran out of my room, but saw that the fire had grown so much, most of the house was on fire. I was crying. I saw mom, but couldn't get to her. There was a giant wall of fire separating us.

"Y/n, honey, don't be afraid. We love you, so, so much. Here, take this...to remember us." I cried more, seeing the top floor inching down, nearly falling.

"Mommy, please!! No!!" Mom gave me a locket with a moon design pendant. Inside the moon was a picture of my family. I cried harder. Suddenly, the top floor fell hard on Mom and Dad, I jumped out of the way just in time. I saw my dragon stuffed animal near by, grabbed it, and ran out of the house. A fireman pulled me to safety when I got out, and started putting the flames out. I wiped some ash off of Cosmos (the dragon) and hugged him.

"Little girl, are you alright? We found your parents' bodies...and wanted to say we're so sorry. You're too young to live on your own, so you'll have to come with us. We'll make sure you're safe and happy." An officer told me.

"I'm...wh-...what? No..please... I don't want to go." I was rushed into a police carriage. I gripped the locket in my hand as hard as I could, my knuckles turning white.

"Don't worry, what's your name? Here, I'll start, I'm officer Stix. I'm the officer that usually takes people to safety." I whimpered.

"Y/n... My name is Y/n... Where are you taking me..." I asked. Stix smiled.

"I'm bringing you to Solstheim. It's the safest place for a kid these days. You know, with the whole 'Dark Brotherhood murdered the caretaker at the orphange' fiasco going on, I defiantly can't bring you there." I gasped softly.

"Solstheim... that's the island of the Dark Elves, isn't it?" Stix grinned.

"You're a smart cookie." The officer turned in the carriage, the horses turning as well. We then made it to a cold place.

"This is Windhelm. This is where we're going to be boarding the boat to Solstheim." I cried quietly. I didn't want to go. It was too far from my home. But I have no choice.  Stix took my hand in her pawed ones. I felt the soft fur and the hard yet soft paw pads. Her claws were sheathed. She walked me to a large boat, some workers telling us to speak with the captain of the boat, not them. Stix found the captain and smiled.

"Hello, I need passage to Sols-"

"If you're looking for passage to Solstheim, too bad. I'm not going back there anymore." Stix frowned.

"Listen, this girl lost her family and home today. She needs a place to stay. I'm officer Stix, the person currently taking care of her." I looked down at Cosmos, hugging him tighter. The captain's eyes widened.

"My, you had one bad day, didn't you? Listen, I'll only take you to Raven Rock. No further. Oh, and kid, here's 500 septims. For your troubles." Stix and I grinned and I took the gold.

"Thanks, mister! I'll be sure to spend them wisely." I put the gold in a coin purse I always brought with me, and we sat down on the boat.

TEN YEARS LATER

I was now 18, living by myself in Solstheim. I never took the locket off ever since my mother and father passed. I still had Cosmos somehow. I headed to the Retching Netch for the first time, wondering what food and drink products they had. When I entered, I saw a guy around my age wearing some sort of weird armor. Chitin armor, I think. I went over to him and sat next to him.

"Hello,...It's my first time coming here. Do you know what products this place sells?" The guy turned to me.

"Welcome. What a coincidence! It's my first time here too." I smiled at his voice. Definitely a Dark Elf.

"At least I don't feel so left out, then." I chuckled. I played with my locket, twiddling it around my fingers. The Dark Elf noticed, and looked down at my locket.

"That's a pretty...unique...necklace. Where'd you get it? It seems pretty important to you." I felt a little uncomfortable telling a stranger what it means to me.

"I'm sorry, um..I just,..don't feel safe telling a stranger..." The guy jumped at the realization.

"I'm sorry, I should have introduced myself first. Teldryn Sero,  I fight along side others. You?" I thought of his name. Teldryn Sero... it sounded nice. Suited him, from what I can tell.

"I'm Y/n L/n. I'm just a normal y/r. Well, kind of. But that relates to the necklace." Teldryn nodded in understanding.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, Y/n. I'm just a curious, old Dark Elf." I smiled.

"N-No, it's okay. It happened years ago. When I was eight, my parents died in a fire, my house a long with. My mother gave me this locket and said that her and my father loved me so much, but...then the top floor crashed down, killing them both. A police officer took me here, and a captain of the boat I rode gave me some gold." Teldryn seemed to freeze at my backstory.

"I am so, so, so truly sorry." He placed his gloved hand on my shoulder for comfort. I tear escaped my eye, but I quickly brushed it away.

"Hey, would you mind if I fought along side you for a while? You seem like you haven't talked to someone about that ever, and you look like you would like the comfort." I grinned at his suggestions, nodding furiously.

"Great! And for your troubles, you don't have to pay me. I mean, we're friends, right?" My eyes widened.

"I never had a friend. Everyone I knew when I was little was homeless and only begged me to make my parents adopt them." I admitted.

"In that case, we're going to be best friends...forever." I hugged Teldryn, never forgetting about those sweet words.

'Best friends...forever.'
