Draco woke with a small grin, something unusual compared to his everyday sigh and grumble. He had a few ideas as to why his mood was light. Today was the beginning of a long awaited weekend.  Hogsmede would be the place to go, for he yearned for the taste of a creamy butterbeer.        He tried to ignore the lump forming in the back of his throat when he thought about Christmas away from his mother. He had insisted that he stay at Hogwarts for Winter Break, to work on his...assignment. Still, like any boy, he missed his mum. He shook his head trying to relieve himself from the depressing thoughts, deciding he would not allow himself to ruin the start of a pleasant day.

...

"Fancy a butterbeer?" asked Harry, entering the common room. Hermione, who was reading a book by the fire, smiled up at him. She set her book down, and nodded. "I'll just be a minute." she said. "Where's Ron?" Harry asked as she made her way to the girls dormitories. "Off snogging somewhere." she shrugged. Harry chuckled in response as Hermione continued her walk up stairs.

...

Draco seemed to be the only one at the Three Broomsticks so far, a merry witch waved excitedly at Draco. "Hello!" she exclaimed. "First customer of the day! What will it be, love?" "Just a butterbeer." he mumbled, taking out his galleons. Draco heard the ring of a nearby bell behind him, and turned to find a certain pair walking in. "Actually...make that three butterbeers,"

...

"I left a note on Ron's bed, letting him know where we would be." Harry said as he sat down on one side of the four seated table. Draco set down the three butterbeers he had been balancing like a waiter. "Thanks for the butterbeer."  Hermione said, sitting down next to Harry. "No problem." replied Draco, taking a seat. He couldn't help but look around a bit nervously. "Don't worry," Hermione whispered to him with a small smile, "I've set a temporary invisibility charm...nobody can see us."  Draco couldn't help but feel relieved, a death eater with a muggle-born and the boy who lived should not be seen having friendly conversation over butterbeer. Draco nodded a bit offering a small smile in return.

...

Being Draco's friend, Hermione decided, wouldn't be as hard as she thought. Once she made her final desicion to get over the grudge she held, it gave the closure they both needed. For about half an hour they sat at their private spot, few witches and wizards came in for a butterbeer or sweet bread, and they had polite conversation. Their small talk turned into small conversations, they learned a bit about Draco, and although there were moments of silence where the years behind them lingered, there was always a recovery.

...

It was all too good to be true. Draco began to feel uneasy, waiting for something bad to happen because it just always did. Either that or this was just some wild dream. That didn't seem too hard to believe considering he was sitting with Harry Potter and Hermione Granger having a butterbeer casually, and having small talk. What was this? He was going mad. "What's wrong?" Hermione said suddenly, making Draco jump. "Nothing." he replied, a moment later. "I actually must be going, tell Ron I said hello I guess. Bye." he said standing suddenly and rushing out.

...

"What was that all about?" Harry asked. "I have no idea." Hermione replied with a shrug. "You're boyfriend is quite strange." said Harry, taking a sip of butterbeer and peering at Hermione over the mug at Hermione. She rolled her eyes. "Don't be daft." she scoffed, but Harry was still looking at her with question in his eyes. "Oh come on, Harry! I can't be nice to a boy? Does this mean I fancy you too?" she asked with a giggle. "Well I wasn't a total jerk to you." he replied. Hermione shrugged. "I decided I was not going to hold a grudge any longer and I am happy with that decision. I promised him a fresh start, and that is what I'm giving him." she said, and picked up her own mug for a drink. "Now, moving on to a more realistic relationship. How's Ginny?" Hermione asked with a smug, happy to be out of the hot seat. "Why do you ask?" replied Harry. Hermione rised on eyebrow. Just then there was a the sound of a bell meaning someone had just walked in. "I'll tell you later." Harry replied, his eyes on the door. Hermione turned to find Ron, searching for the two and finally spotting them, giving a small wave as he made his way to their table. "Oh don't worry about Ronald. He'll get over it." she whispered just before he got within hearing range. "You done snogging, mate?" asked Harry as Ron sat down in Draco's previous spot. Ron scoffed, "I'm not even enjoying it anymore. All Lavender wants to do is snog!" he exclaimed, and Hermione burst into laughter. "Aw, poor Ronald."

...

Draco,

I have awaited a letter from you and received nothing. I understand that this is hard for you, but we need to know if you've made any progress. I think your father is growing close to having gone mad with anxiety. The Dark Lord is truly anxious for the completion of your task. I'm so sorry that this has been put upon you, Draco. I know you don't deserve this, but you and I, we are going to escape one day. One day this will all be behind us, we will leave The Dark Lord. I promise.

I love you.
