i smile because i have to
people are happy with positive me
they wouldn't like what lays beneath.
i don't smile because i want to
it's been so long
since the curve
of my lip
has been genuine.
i'm the perfect happiest person, as you can see
i smile because they need me to
they are dependent on me to be positive for them when they are broken
they are relying on me to be strong whilst they are not
i smile because i'm expected to
why wouldn't you?
it's what's expected of me to do
my teeth hurt
my cheeks ache
can't they see it's all fake?
my eyes are screaming something different
why can't anybody hear me?
this smile, this face
is a mask i put on
for people who take comfert
in the fact they think i am strong
when i am alone
everything shatters
and i see what there is underneath:
i am the broken one.
i always smile for everyone else
can't someone please smile for me?
