Pride - Kippen Siblings

Last year TJ and Amber both came out to their parents. Both at different times though, Amber came out as lesbian in April 2018 and TJ came out as gay in October 2018. Their parents weren't the happiest about it but they learned to become more accepting as time went by.

Flashback to April 2018
Amber POV

Around some time last year, I had figured out I'm lesbian. I didn't want to be though. People will look at me different. But then I started to see young girls coming out as lesbian on TV shows, which made me feel not alone.
My family and I were eating dinner and then my mom asked me, "hey Amber, don't you think it's about time you've gotten a boyfriend? You're in high school, I think that's old enough to be in a relationship". I panicked for a moment, 'breath' I tell myself. 'You can do it'. "Um... Mom, Dad and TJ, I'm- I'm lesbian" I admitted. I broke down to tears right then. I couldn't believe I actually said it. My parents looked toward one another with their eyebrows raised. TJ got out of his seat and walked over to give me a hug, "I'm proud of you sis!" And I hugged him back. Then my Mom opened her mouth, then closed it again. "Um... Amber, sweetie, are you sure this isn't a phase or anything?"  I looked up at her with my teary eyes, "I've been aware of me being lesbian for about a year or so, so yes, I'm sure this isn't a phase". She nodded while my father stayed silent. He never has much to say in the first place so I wasn't expecting much coming from him.

*back to current time*
Author POV

TJ's coming out was actually really random. He first confided in Amber about his sexuality. Amber was being very supportive of her brother and felt really proud that he told her. TJ and Amber didn't get along the best but as they got older, they created a very strong bond. The day TJ officially came out to his family, was actually a fun day and it seemed like the perfect way to come out as gay.

*woah another flashback! Okay, okay flashback to October 2018*
TJ's POV

It's almost Halloween. My parents decided that today Amber and I should get our costumes today. My friend (crush) Cyrus and I are going to be having matching costumes for Halloween. We're going as somersault. When I explained the costume to my family, Amber went "Aw! You two would be so cute as a couple!"  Then I guess I got a random ounce of confidence because I say, "we really would". My mom basically screamed, "WHAT!?" Which caused my dad to almost slam the breaks. I realize what I said, "oh um... I'm gay... and I like Cyrus". Amber smiled and grabbed my hand, "good job for telling them! Welcome to the gay club, it's full of rainbow and unicorns". I laughed at her comment and we pulled into the parking lot of the mall. My parents told me it was a little unexpected but ever since Amber came out, they have learned to be more accepting and learn more about it.

*back to present time... again*
3rd person POV

Amber and TJ were getting ready for their very first pride parade. Amber was wearing a purple dress with rainbow heels and rainbow eyeshadow going down her face. TJ was wearing a white shirt, black pants, a bandana and rainbow suspenders. They were both meeting Andi and Cyrus down at the parade. "You two almost ready?!" TJ and Amber's mother called up the stairs. "Almost!" They both responded at the same time, Amber grabbed a package out of her room and grabbed TJ's wrist to head down the stairs. Their mom looked at the package with a confused face, "whats in there?" She asked. Amber smiled big, "you'll have to wait and see!"

The Kippen's made it to the pride parade location and found Andi with Cyrus almost immediately. Andi was wearing pink crop top, green shorts and had rainbow glitter on her cheeks. Cyrus's outfit was more simple but that was because he wanted the surprise to stand out more. Amber and TJ got out of the car and waved their mother goodbye. Amber gave Andi a hug, "Bambi! You look so cute!" She complimented her girlfriend. Andi hugged back, "you have the package, correct?" And Amber nodded. She ripped it open and threw the packaging in the garbage can nearby. Amber pulled out large individual flags for each of them. Amber had a lesbian flag, Andi got a pansexual flag and TJ and Cyrus got matching rainbow gay flags. They each clipped them around their shoulders and wore them as if they're capes.

The parade had started. There was music blaring out of some speakers, there was so much rainbow and glitter everywhere and most of all, there was pride. Everyone there was so proud of who they were. It was a day to remember forever!
