Chapter 15-

It had already been a month and Sunwing wasn't any less harsh to Angeleyes than when he first met him. Leaf sat in the garden twirling a tulip in her hand as she stared at the sun setting. Slowly she heard someone creeping up the lawn towards her, and assuming it was Angeleyes she smiled gently. But, the man that sat down wasn't a vampire with his tanned skin and fiery red hair.

"Sunwing? What do you want?" she hissed.

"You," he replied softly. "You're glowing, did you know that? Glowing like a werewolf's eyes, girl."

"Sunwing, I'm getting married," she said, remembering her excuse to hide their true reason.

"Why? When it should be me? It should be me!" he whispered intensely.

"It should be you?! What about my sister, huh? You wanted her! You got her! Why are you coming on to me? Where is she anyway?!" she answered, voice growing louder in anger.

"I only wanted her because I couldn't have you," he whispered.

"Liar!" she yelled standing up. "You wanted her because you wanted to make her and me fight! But she's my sister and I won't! I won't fight her!"

By this time a few faeries had come out of their houses to see what the fuss was all about including Leaf's neighbor Ms. Ella in her nightgown and fuzzy pink robe. Ms. Ella's eyes were low and her glasses were slipping off of her thin, wrinkled nose.

"Oh, go back in your damn house, Ms. Ella," Leaf roared storming into her own home.

Ms. Ella frowned in shock and worry, thinking only of what was wrong with the girl she had babysat as a child. Sunwing sat on the lawn scheming on how he was going to win Leaf's heart again from Angeleyes's frigid clutches. The rest of the neighbors rushed inside their homes to spread the news of the latest drama to all of their family and friends.

Leaf paced in the living room, ready to punch a hole in anyone who dared to challenge her. Unfortunately, it was Angeleyes who came down the stairs bounding with joy.

"There you are," he smiled. "I was wondering if you wanted to watch a movie with me."

"A movie?!" she screamed. "With all that danger? A movie?!"

"Yes, a movie," he repeated, taken aback.

"A freakin' movie, seriously? No I don't wanna watch a movie with you!" she hissed. "What I want is to get out of this damned house and never have to see it again!"

With that she ran to the room they shared and locked the door behind her. Angeleyes stood and stared at the closed door with pain in his eyes. What did I do? he thought sadly. Then he saw Sunwing sitting in the garden outside where Leaf had said she was going. Maybe she's mad at herself for loving him too; he thought his jealousy rising high.

That night as Leaf lay in bed and Angeleyes lay on the floor, they were both wide awake, thinking about the other one's thoughts. Bitterly, Angeleyes envisioned Leaf kissing Sunwing then telling Angeleyes, too late, that she had fallen for someone else. He tossed and turned over and over in his sleep, trying to rid himself of the dream, but he couldn't. Leaf on the other hand kept replaying her harsh conversation with Angeleyes knowing she should apologize but she was too prideful to. Eventually when the clock chimed twelve, she couldn't take it any longer and called to Angeleyes, but he ignored her call and pretended to be in a deep pre-slumber. She sighed and let herself drift to sleep, already feeling the icy cold come between them.

In the morning it was still there, an icy wall between them. Angeleyes didn't say a word as he went to brush his teeth and get ready for the day. Now it was Leaf's turn to feel hurt, but she hid it in her bitter, slicing humor.

"Great day for your horrible cooking, right Ma?" she snickered, staring at the bloody beef. "Beef for breakfast? I feel like a dinosaur."

Everyone at the table sat quietly, waiting for their mother to burst into tears, but she held it in and returned to the kitchen in silence. Leaf grimaced as Angeleyes glared at her his eyes black like coal sinking to the bottom of her heart. Hurt even more, she sniped at her sister, Krystalle.

"Hey, Krystalle, whose leftovers are you gonna take next? You know all Sunwing ever thinks about is me, right? He only dated you, because he wanted to make me jealous." she smiled vindictively feeling the pain leave her soul and enter into Krystalle through those oval eyes.

"That's not true! You're lying!" Krystalle cried, jumping up in disbelief.

"Think I am? Ask him yourself. Matter of fact, where is he? Don't you know how to keep track of a man? That's how you lost the first one." Leaf shot back.

Krystalle ran from the room, tears rolling down her cheeks and face red like a cherry. Leaf knew she had no right to force Krystalle to remember the first boyfriend she had that cheated on her with her best friend, but it felt too good to pass up. One by one the table began to leave muttering insults towards her under their breath. Only Angeleyes stayed glaring at her with those soul deep black eyes with a current of disappointment flowing behind them.

"What's going on with you?" he whispered, voice soaked in pain.

Leaf couldn't answer so she walked out the front door, heading straight for the woods that bordered the faerie neighborhood. She walked until she could see no light behind her no path and fell to her knees on the wet soil. Digging her hands in the dirt, she screamed her sorrows to the heavens then lay sobbing at the base of a sycamore tree. As she quieted, she listened to the forest's lullaby, the soft trickling of water and the sweet song of life buzzing all around. But she started up as this lullaby was interrupted by a sharp crack of a twig, quickly jerking her head up, she saw a man squatting low on the limb, smiling the grin of death. Leaf gasped as he jumped down and covered her mouth and the forest all around grew silent.
