Second Chance Mate

Chapter Three

"get back here", Jessie growls, chasing after me

"and why would I do that?" I question teasingly. I turn the corner and slam into a door

"dangit are you okay," Jessie  asks, concern all over her face as she finally catches up to me

"I'm fine; how about we head into the bedroom" I question, realising the whole pack is staring at us. Ever since we came clean a week later about being mates, none of my pack members can keep their eyes off of us.

"They need to stop staring. It's pissing me off", Jessie growls, storming into my room; we are yet actually to move into the same room, everyone knows the beta family adopted her the 'day' before her birthday, so they assume we didn't know at that point in time. However, some of my pack members still think it is weird. I stare at my beautiful second chance and remember back to my first mate's words, 'you need to accept her as your mate, mark her and mate with her. It's destined to be. Once you mate, you both will become the strongest wolves in the world and will be able to stop the big bad that is coming' i look over a Jessie, who is lying flat on my bed, grumbling to herself

"You okay there?" I question, lying next to her. In a matter of seconds, she is in my arms, snuggling me

"perfect now", she mumbles, burying her head into my top while fisting it into her hand. I wrap my arm around her perfect frame and smile, rubbing circles on her back gently. I look down and notice she has fallen asleep. I snuggle down into the bed more and turn the tv on.

"alpha, sorry to disturb you, but alpha reed from the moonlight pack is requesting him and his beta enter the land; something about a rouge problem and they need our help" Austin smiles, looking at his adopted daughter in my arms

"I will wake her up. Tell them they can come in" I smile softly. I watch as Austin leaves; turning off the tv, I turn to Jessie and shake her awake

"what's wrong?" she questions. I just smile sadly at her

"another alpha is here; we need to go down and greet him" I smile at her; Jessie nods, sitting up and running a hand through her hair to tame it a bit more.

"am I introduced as luna?" she questions, and I nod my head.

Walking down the stairs, I grab her hand tightly in mine

"Hello, alpha reed, this is my beta Austin, and his daughter, my luna Jessie" I nod to him, and he shakes his head and turns to his beta.

"This is my beta, Vick" I shake their hands and allow Jessie and Austin to do the same; the moment she touches Vick's hand, she backs into my side softly. I notice the shaking and look down at her; she has tears in her eyes.

"Please excuse me and the luna" I smile, pulling Jessie away

"Jessie, what's wrong, baby" I question, studying her face

"Vick, he's the one who marked another girl, my first mate", he gulps out, making my hold on her tighten, we walk back out into the entrance, and I smile

"Can we hurry this up? My luna isn't feeling very comfortable" I smile but send a glare Vicks's way. I notice Austin do the same thing meaning Jessie told him

"Is there a problem" alpha reed questions, I turn to Jessie, and she nods her head

"I think we should take this to my office", I mutter, walking in the direction of my office.

Austin closes the door and takes his seat beside my desk while Jessie jumps onto my lap

"ten years ago, my mate died; she was shot the moment I met her, then a rouge; my now Luna was six at the time and felt the loss of her mate; at first, she thought he had died, and he was me since all she could see was me covered in blood. When we got her here, we checked the system and found out he was sixteen and marked a fifteen-year-old. On her sixteenth birthday, we discovered she was my second chance mate the day before Austin, my beta, adopted her. When you guy arrived, and she shook Vicks' hand, she realised he was her first mate, the one who marked another" I finish off; alpha reed looks shocked while Jessie is cuddled into me, trying to hide herself

"I am so sorry; I didn't know my beta did such a thing, luna. I am so sorry you had to go through that, and I am glad you have an amazing mate like alpha James" the alpha turns to his beta, who is looking at the ground

"anything you want to say for yourself", he musters out; Vick shakes his head, making the alpha sigh in defeat

"Now, what was the issue at hand?" I question, making Jessie perk up a bit.

"There is a pack of rogues who keep attacking my pack; we are going to every name on our allies list looking for people who are willing to help defeat them" he smiles; I look at Jessie to see what she thinks, but she isn't looking at me, she is having a silent conversation with her wolf.

"Jessie, what do you think, your first decision as luna" I smile; I watch as Vicks's jaw clenches, showing his wolf is made that she has another mate.

"We should help them; no one deserves to die from rouges" she smiles up at me. I nod at alpha reed to tell him the answer

"When do you need us?" I question. He looks thoughtfully

"the other packs are coming on Saturday. Can you come then?" he questions. I just nod.

I watch as Austin leads them out of the room, leaving just Jessie and me alone

"mark me", she mutters; I look at her in shock

"When we get there, mark me, I know I am not ready this second, but when I see her, I know I will be ready" she smiles softly, making me nod

"if that is what you want, then that is what you will get" I smile back, showing her that no matter what, she is safe with me.
