Chapter 5: Percy
ALL AROUND ME, THERE WERE SWIRLS OF GOLDEN DUST. THEY WRITHED IN THE air like snakes, and I tried to avoid them. Every time one touched me I felt a jolt of pain, and I fumbled in my pockets for Riptide, but only found more of the burning golden sand. A deep, rumbling chuckle filled the air. And I tried to run, but walls of the same, swirling sand rose up from the ground.
Suddenly, I saw Carter, lying on the ground. I tried to run to him, but I was immobilised and my voice wouldn't work. A mighty warrior formed out of the sand, in a gleaming suit of armour, and stabbed him through the chest, once, twice. My mouth opened in a silent shout, and I struggled to move, but my invisible chains would not move one inch.
I saw the same happen to Sadie, Walt and Zia, and then it became even more terrible.
I saw Grover, Nico and Thalia attack the warrior and I wanted to scream 'No! Don't do it!' But I watched, as Grover went down, stabbed in the back, then Nico, sliced across the throat, and finally Thalia, with her own arrow embedded in her neck.
I knew what was coming next, but I was powerless to stop it.
Annabeth was on the ground, holding her hand up in a feeble defence as the warrior took off his helmet. I almost jumped back in surprise. It was... Me? My face was contorted into a sneer, and I looked down at Annabeth in cold contempt as I raised my sword above my head.
The thought was so abhorrent, so wrong, that I felt something rising in my gut, and the ground began to shake.
This time, I did find my voice.
"Stop! This isn't you- me!" I Pleaded, and a low rumbling chuckle bounced though the air as the tremors grew stronger.
"It's only a matter of time, Perseus, for I am rising. And you shall be my champion!"
I spat on the ground as thin cracks began to appear in the dream, and it began to break apart into blackness. "Not likely."
The ground split into two pieces, and I found myself falling, falling, into blackness.

"Earthquake!" The cry cut through my consciousness like a knife, and I woke up, sitting bolt upright. I pulled on a T-short, but I doubled over as I felt a colossal yank of my gut. The earth trembled and thin spirals of plaster dust trickled down from the ceiling. I felt a shock of realisation as a huge crack began to appear in the floor, so I could see the panicked magicians below. Was this...me?
I concentrated and a drip of sweat rolled down my brow. The pain in my stomach grew and grew into agony, and the house continued to shake. I heard screams as a section of the roof collapsed, and I doubled my efforts. My head began to feel light and woozy, and my legs began to shake.
Slowly, the tremors calmed as spots of black danced into my vision. I hoped Annabeth was okay.
As the earthquake stopped completely, I sank into unconsciousness with a grateful sigh.
