I was perched on my bed, my phone shattered in the far corner of my room, having ungracefully landed there after I had thrown it. It had collided with a load bang-much louder than I had expected- and I had already heard the soft pitter-patter of feet up the stairs and the door swung open to reveal Naomi. She had a white bed cover draped around her underwear-clad body, a purple sports bra and shorts on, the dark colour could faintly be seen through the cover. The cover was drowning her short figure- giving her the appearance of floating- and her long dark hair was slightly knotted and cascaded down her left shoulder.

Sleepy brown eyes scanned the room before settling on the shards of glass that clung to my phone, and an understanding settled on her face. She slowly stepped towards me, approaching me like a wild horse that may take off at any moment. I mustered up a sad smile and shot it in her direction; hoping to show her I wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon. Plopping down next to me she unfolded her blanket cocoon and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, pulling my head into the crook of her neck. I was suddenly swallowed with a feeling of complete and utter safety, something so wonderful and yet, I had never felt it before.

"Bennett, you can talk when your ready" she muttered softly, having seen me nervously glancing in her direction. The tense feeling that had slowly crept up my spine slid away; leaving me feeling like a tired ball of putty in her hands. I allowed myself to snuggle closer into her embrace and I moulded my body against hers, her heat warming more than just my heart.

The only other person I had cuddled with was my mum when I was little, and I felt another wave of tears attack my eyes and stampede down my cheeks, pattering softly on to Naomi's shoulder. Her hand landed on my soft dark hair and she absent-mindedly stroked my head. The sensation was calming and the flow slowly started to decrease.

"I swore I'd never fall again

But this doesn't even feel like falling

Gravity can't forget

To pull me back to the ground again

Feels like I've been awakened"

"It's my Mothers birthday today" I whisper, choking on the leftover tears that had clogged my windpipe. As soon as those words left my lips Naomi's arms tightened around me and I felt like the lorry that had been sat on my back had finally driven off.

I felt content just laying with her and soon I drifted into a peaceful sleep- a treasure which had become rarer and rarer as the date had hovered closer to me.
