Fate woke up around six in the morning. Her room was upstairs the middle one on the left. Hill House was big and it definitely have more rooms to fill up an entire town. Fate dressed up to go for a morning walk, Layla's family were heavy sleepers they won't get up till eleven in the morning. After the walk Fate opened her suitcase on the sofa which was in the corner of the candy room. Layla liked to call her room the candy room. She took a sigh and began to unpack but in the back of her mind she was still thinking about her mother, she unpacked carefully, setting her dresses on hangers and putting the hangers carefully in the big old wardrobe. She thought about wearing comfortable shoes maybe she'll feel better after wearing a pair of comfy shoes.

It was my own choice to come, there's no need to be afraid she told herself. She was standing facing her back to the door, looking from the window to the wardrobe then she looked at Layla she was sleeping deeply. Her face was calm as if she was dreaming of a beautiful garden with cool breeze blowing and that garden was made of strong walls where no evil can harm her and she was safe from the pessimism of the world......she was safe.

Fate? What're you doing standing by the door. Layla said rubbing her eyes.

Well! Good morning to you too sleepyhead.

You still didn't answer my question though?

I lost my ear ring, was looking for that.

Did you sleep well last night?

Yeah! I woke up at six in the morning then I went for a walk after that unpacked my stuff and that's all pretty much.

Wow! Fate you're so boring. By the way are Mom and Dad up?

I don't know.

Okay! She said yawning lets go downstairs and I'll fix you breakfast.

Since when did you become so useful? Fate teased.

They both laughed and started making their way downstairs. Race you down Layla said Fate quickened her pace and she almost bumped into Mr. Thyme.

Why are you girls in a hurry.....? Layla! he screamed I told you so many time there's no running in my goddamn house. Which part of it don't you get it?

I'm sorry she said lowering her eyes Fate and I were just having a –

That's enough Lai he said holding her face I'm sorry I yelled at you I'm not feeling so good today. He kissed her on her forehead you can go now.

You okay? Fate asked.

Yes! Dad's always in a bad mood. He always have problem in everything I do. Anyways, never mind lets go have breakfast.

Mrs. Thyme was already in the kitchen making pancakes. Morning Fate she said cheerfully when she saw her.

Morning! Mrs. Thyme.

Hope! Layla didn't bug you much last night.

No! She said laughing not at all.

"I'm making pancakes I remember they're your favorites." Every morning Christina made you pancakes when you guys visited here last. "I wish she were here too. Oh! I miss her so much sometimes...... Anyways, the pancakes are almost ready why don't you guys go sit at the table and I'll serve you."

After breakfast she and Layla went outside for exploring, the hills were so big and enormous that they scared Fate. Layla showed Fate her little garden which she'd been working on for a while and Fate remembered that garden looked exactly like what Fate had thought that Layla would be dreaming about. Behind the house the hills were standing neatly and the rays of sunlight were floating in.

These hills are perfect for picnic. Fate said excitedly. You know we can bring a chocolate cake and a nice salad, a thermos full of lemonade and relaxed under the big shady tree.

These trees are old as much as I remember Layla said. I don't think I would like partying under an old tree.

Oh! Come on you're scared of almost everything. Besides I would ask Mrs. Thyme to make some salad and lemonade and we would have to come here soon for a picnic.

It was almost time for sunset, the sun was setting down smoothly behind the hills and Fate thought that she had never seen something so mesmerizing. As, she made her way up the hills she saw a shadow around the tree. She froze unable to move she whispered to Layla.

Why're you whispering my name? Layla said sarcastically also whispering.

I think someone's following us.

Fate not again!

No! Look around that big tree on the right. Someone's standing behind it.

Who is it? Layla shouted

Layla no wait you- Fate grabbed her by her collar but she forced herself free.

Who is it? She spoke again moving closer to the tree.

The man came from behind the tree no, not a man it was a boy around Fate's age. He was looking down at them from the dusk. The darkness was approaching fast and Fate saw Ethan Rivers for the first time. Their eyes met and they continued to stare at each other until Layla broke the unspeakable connection between them.

Who are you? She demanded.

Layla! Stop it already.

I'm Ethan. The boy said.

My name is Fate she said shaking his hand and this is my friend Layla.

Hi! Layla said rolling her eyes.

What were you doing behind that tree? Fate asked him

Were you spying on us? Layla added

I wasn't spying he said I was hanging nearby and I saw you too coming up the hills so I hid behind that tree until Fate spotted me.

Where do you live? Layla asked

Uhh six miles away from here. I work for Mr. Thyme.

You work for Dad? How come I never saw you on the property?

I fix lights and other electricity products so I don't often come here, only when your dad calls me to fix something.

Alright! Fate chimed in it's getting dark. We should head home.

I hope we'll meet again sometimes soon? Ethan said with a wink.

Layla started to say something but Fate quickly grabbed her arm and said, be quiet and walk with me. I don't like the vibes coming out of this guy.

Mrs. Thyme made meatballs with spaghetti for dinner. At the dinner table Layla started talking about Ethan that how he had deep green eyes and you could just fall for him right after seeing him for the first time.

But you were so rude to him today. Fate said

Oh! That was just me telling him that I don't care he's cute. Layla went on.

Who is Ethan? Mrs. Thyme asked innocently

He's the electrician of our house and he works for Dad.

Thyme you never told me that we've a personal electrician for our house. Mrs. Thyme asked

Yeah! That's what I asked him that I never saw him on the property. Layla added

Oh! That boy Ethan Rivers you're talking about? He's not our personal electrician, he just fixes small things like lights and coffee maker like stuff. Thyme said

Layla frowned and shook her head "I bet he's a prince in disguise waiting for his one true love."

"You're so disgusting." Fate said sarcastically.

"I'm not! Forgive a girl for being too much in love."

"Yeah, Right." Fate said rolling her eyes.

"Who wants desert?" Mrs. Thyme asked coming from the kitchen.

"I'm sorry but I think I should sleep now." I'm a little tired. Fate said standing up.

"Wait up. I'm coming too." Layla announced.

"Goodnight Girls." Both the parents said.
