Take me back to the days when I listened to Glee soundtracks,
Longing for a time when I didn't feel under attack.
I wanna know why, why time goes by,
I wanna know why, why all I do is cry.
Take me back to what I know,
Take me back before I go.
Nostalgia has a way of making things feel better than they actually were,
I know that yet I still haven't learned.

Take me back to the start when I didn't break your heart,
Take me back to the days when I didn't cause your pain.
I don't understand why I can't go back there,
I don't understand why I can't breathe familiar air.
Days bleed into years,
Smiles bleed into tears.
Take me back to a place I belong,
Take me back so I can right all my wrongs.

Take me back to New York City,
I want the awful smells of the subway,
I want the wicked ways of Broadway.
I want to feel endangered in an alley at night,
Because that's all I knew,
I want a fight.

Take me back to coffee shops,
I knew the barista so well,
Didn't have to pay the cost.
Take me back to winter vacations,
Where the only thing I worried about was eating one too many Celebrations.

But, I know I can't go back to those years,
I can't lie and say I don't have my fears.
I'm so obsessed with turning back the clock,
Because I know what it looked like and I know I didn't feel lost.
If anybody has the power to do as I say,
Please, take me back to those perfect, city days.
