I Had a Cause After All

I'm feeling helpless,
I can't help it.
I need to let this emotion go,
I'll write it away, a poem only for me to know.
Dip the quill into the ink,
It's time to take a trip into this complex chaos in me.
Flip the script to a blank side,
It's gonna be a wild fucking ride.

I felt useless for three days, months and eventually years,
Panicked by my irrational fears.
I felt purposeless for what felt like a lifetime,
Searching for anything to save me from mine.
I began to throw my thoughts onto paper,
I began to feel a whole lot better.
I think I had a cause after all,
To be writing romantic poetry and to be bracing for the fall.

I began listening to punk rock when I was sixteen,
A year shy of me becoming me.
I knew something was wrong, something was missing,
I just couldn't see what, I couldn't see.
Typing too much on a vintage typewriter,
It's time to break dawn and find something lighter.
Flip the script to a blank side,
It's gonna be a wild fucking time.

Words are words in the end,
Broken bones and hearts, put on the mend.
Now I know how Sylvia felt,
She found something so passionate, so vivid, so red.
