FIFTEEN
THE GRYFFINDOR VS SLYTHERIN game had finally arrived, after weeks of anticipation from the entire school. It was the first game of the year, officially kicking off the inter-house quidditch cup.Annalise was shockingly nervous that morning, anxious for the game. She was usually very confident before quidditch matches, so her nerves took her by surprise. Maybe it was because it was her first year as captain and she didn't want to let the team down. So much pressure was on her and James to make sure Gryffindor came out of this game with a win.
She was still very nervous when she had sat down with the team at the Gryffindor table. It was tradition that before every game, they would eat breakfast together as a team. She glanced up at the stormy, gray ceiling of the great hall. Annalise cursed silently under her breathe. She was really hoping for some good weather during the game, but by the looks of it, they'd be playing in a thunderstorm.
She bit her nails frantically, trying to calm herself down. Apparently, her nerves were quite obvious because Cal's eye's had widened as soon as he saw her. "No no no!" He yelped, as she stared at him with a confused expression. "You look nervous." He said frantically. "You can't be nervous, because that means you're nervous, and that makes me nervous, and I'm already freaking out!" He panted, breathing rapidly.
"Cal," She said putting a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. "You need to calm down." She told him slowly. "Being this nervous is only going to hurt you. You're going to be just fine, I promise." Cal nodded slowly, his face still extremely frightened, and went back to chewing his food, although she was sure he hadn't heard a single word she had just said.
She looked around at her teammates, who were busily eating their breakfast. Cal was still nervously chewing his food in silence. Kaden and Rose were both engaged in a conversation about one of their classes, and Roxy and Lily were both talking to Nearly Headless Nick, who was wishing them good luck.
"Where's Potter?" Annalise asked, turning her head around, scanning her surroundings for her co-captain. He was nowhere to be seen.
"Right behind you Wood."
She turned around to see James walking up behind her, a grin on his face. If he was nervous he certainly didn't show it. He sat down with the rest of the team, excitement radiating off him.
"Hope you didn't miss me too much." He smirked, sitting down next to her and popping a grape in his mouth.
She rolled her eyes. "I could never." She scoffed.
"Who's ready to crush those bloody snakes!" James squealed excitedly, clapping his hands like a little kid.
"How are you not nervous!" Lily said, gaping at her brother's confidence.
"James is never nervous." Roxy laughed, answering Lily's questioned.
"Because we've worked for this for weeks now." James said confidently. "I know what we're capable of, and I know we have a strong team this year."
