two-bit liked to make life seem like a big ol' joke, and maybe to him it was. he was different from most greasers, sure he did what they did and talked like they did but he seemed content with the way his life was. other greasers held more hate for the whole thing, i mean we had all the bad breaks, i didn't care what cherry valance had to say about being a greaser was a real downer. he love school to, not many greasers would say that even ponyboy who was doing better at school than most east-siders. i hadn't really talked to him much before the day he came into my uncles hardware shop, and he gave me a not so good impression and but a grin to my face.
he had been roaming around for what seemed hours now, he was about to leave but i said something that made him turn around. "you gonna pay for that switch mickey?"
"i didn't plan on it doll." he said leaning on the counter with a cheeky smirk.
"i'm just doing my job, i don't care what you do, but at least buy something so that my uncle don't get sus huh." i didn't care much for my uncle he wasn't very nice, he was sexist and rude. he almost hadn't let me have the job because i was a girl. so why should i care if i resident lifter wanted a blade and didn't feel like payin', you always need one if your a greaser so i didn't see the problem nor did i care to find my morals on that early sunday morning.
he looked up towards a lighter, it was a copper colour and the cheapest on the rack. he grabbed it and pulled out a few cents handing them over. i chucked the coins into my pocket, handing over the lighter. "i ain't telling you how to do your job miss, but ain't you supposed to put that in the register?" he picked up the lighter sliding it into his leather jacket pocket.
"its my tip." i don't particularly remember why but he found me interesting, thought i was someone he'd want to be friends with or least be able to wave at in the hall. i remember the first day he talked to me at school and it was a bit unexpected.
i was walking down the hall after a very boring maths lesson, and was trying to count how many days until the end of the term. but was interrupted by a arm slinging on my shoulder, "guys this is the gal i was talking about from the hardware store." he said to a group of boys who seemed amused.
"its a nice blade, why'd ya let him have it?" asked another boy i recognised as steve from the dx.
"i got one of my own s'real nice, figure us greasers should all have something to help us with them socs. plus my uncle who owns the store is a real prick."
"so you were using me this whole time?" two-bit feigned offence.
"yeah sure mickey." i rolled my eyes walking off.
there were many more encounters with the mickey loving boy and i was seriously hoping they would never stop.
