Chapter 23

After my shower, I headed downstairs to be greeted by Cole. He wasn't the person I wanted to see though. Violet was in the shower so I had to wait for her to get out. No, I wasn't going to tell her all the details that happened. She can at least know that we shared a kiss though. That wasn't going to cause any harm. Plus, she's been waiting for me to tell her when that was going to happen. Lately her and Cole have been doing more than we have. I was proud of her.

I climbed up on top of the counter and watched him as he was cooking him some breakfast. The snow was still a heaping mess outside. It didn't even look like you can walk out there. Our mess we made in the back yard was still there too. I couldn't help but giggle to myself because it was so funny yesterday. We really had fun playing in snow like little children. It brought back a lot of memories that's for sure.

Cole looked at me and smiled a little burning his eggs in the process. At least he was burning his eggs to me. The boy wasn't a very good cook.

"I'm surprised to see you in here." He said turning his attention towards me.

I picked up a banana and started peeling it. "Yeah, you're not the first person I'd chose to run into. I was actually looking for your girlfriend."

"What girlfriend do you speak of?" He raised a brow at me.

I rolled my eyes and laughed. "Violet, you idiot." He was so slow sometimes.

His cheeks turned red and he turned away from me. "What! Vi-Violet's not my girlfriend. Did she say that? How come I wasn't informed?" His panicking was hilarious to me. I can tell he really liked her which was good.

Biting into my banana, I laughed again hoping down from the counter. "No, I just like to see you sweat." I laughed out loud throwing the banana peel away.

He rolled his eyes at me getting his skin color back. It was nice talking to Cole by myself for once. I don't think we had alone time in...well forever. This was the first time in awhile that I've talked to him with out the others around. Maybe I can get the scoop from his side on him and Violet. She's always very vague about what she tells me. Plus, if I see what he says I can probably help her out a bit.

With his food pretty much burnt, he threw it away and crossed his arms looking at me intently. It was a little awkward that he was staring at me like this, but I think he was just mad that I called him out. To be honest, I didn't exactly expect him to react like that. That part was really just a bonus in my book.

He sighed and leaned his back against the counter next to me as I leaned my arms on the counter. "Seriously, why don't you just make it official already?" I wasn't trying to be nosey but...okay I was trying to be nosey.

He scoffed, shrugging his shoulders. "Simple, I don't want to hurt her." That was put simply.

I smiled and stood up so I was looking directly at him. "Did you ever think you were hurting her by not making it official?" I asked him raising a brow at him.

His arms dropped beside him and he looked to the ground. "I'm such an idiot. I'm just scared. If we don't work out not only is our relationship over but so is the friendship." His tone was sad sounding.

It was so sweet that he cared about their friendship so much. It reminded me of myself before I told Carson how I really felt. I didn't want our friendship to get ruined either. It did anyway, but we made it back to each other in a more complicated sense. Besides, Violet and Cole aren't like us. I'm pretty positive that they were going to work it out way better than Carson and I ever could. They had nothing standing in their way besides themselves. I wish that could only be my problem.
