When Kat was 11 years old, she went on a family vacation to Jamaica.
And on that trip, she quickly discovered that she hated the ocean.
Up until this trip, Kat had a relatively good life.
It wasn't amazing, but it's not like she fantasized about killing herself.
It was good enough, she was popular enough, smart enough.
The only thing that was actually amazing was Daniel. Daniel was a dream come true.
He was nice, really nice. Like the kind that would text her every night before bed. And the kind of boy that would meet her outside of school every morning.
Just to make sure they could hold hands as they walked down the hall.
She never knew why Daniel liked her, why he chose to be with her. But she didn't care that much because it felt really good to be with him.
But, back to her trip.
During that 8-day stay on that island.
Kat draank 72 virgin pina coladas
She was in heaven.
And then she got home.
When Kat left Jamaica, she was 107 pounds, when she returned She weighed a whopping... And despite being 5'2 (which was tall for her age), she weighed 127 pounds.
Her body was not prepared to house the extra 20 pounds.
It was noticeable.
Kat did her best to minimize the fallout by wearing hoodies and oversized clothes.
Maddy and some of her other friends noticed the change.
But at least Daniel didn't.
Or
Didn't seem like he did.
Until in 4th period.
A note was handed back to her saying that he was breaking up with her.
And it wasn't even Daniels' handwriting, it was Kendra Sutherland's.
It truly didn't even matter, Kat wasn't in love with Daniel.
She was 11.
But she still was hurt from the whole ordeal.
That day was also when Y/n truly first encountered Kat. It was at the end of the school day when the campus was nearly cleared.
