Teagan

The Ice Queen wasn't happy to see him again so soon.

That wounded him. He'd never known a woman to hate the sight of him. Even the ones who played hard to get and feigned disinterest couldn't deny him a smile when he gave them a wink. He'd given the Ice Queen more than that, but she still wasn't any closer to melting for him.

He needed that darned spiked lemonade.

Teagan propped himself back up to his feet easily, making sure to wipe his hands on his jeans before he extended a hand out to her. Her Royal Highness glances from his outstretched hand to his face and back again, looking as if she expected him to pull something on her. But eventually she placed her hand in his and allowed him to pull her up.

She was careful to keep her legs  firmly shut so as not to make the floral skirt of her dress ride up and expose her.

He smiled at that. Always the proper lady even when getting up from the floor.

"Sorry for literally running into you this time," he told her when she was back on both her feet. He kept his hand wrapped tightly around hers though because he knew it was the only way to keep her from backing away too fast. He gave her a sheepish smile when she frowned up at him. "Guess we were meant to fall for each other, huh?"

Normally such a cliche line would have gotten a giggle out of the girl he was using it on. But in this case, the girl in question was the most talked about woman on the college campus. And she wasn't exactly amused.

Her violet eyes glared at him from her flawless face. "Falling is what I'm good at. No, if we were meant to be, I should have been soaring," the Ice Queen murmured, shaking her head at him. "Nice try, though."

Dang. Of course she'd prefer flying to falling. What angel wouldn't?

He wanted to smack himself. He'd really just called her an angel, even if it was only in his head, and it wouldn't have been so bad to accept that if he hadn't believed it while looking down at her.

But, man, that was the face of an angel as far as he was concerned. There was nothing else to compare her to with those eyes, the naturally curling lashes, and that very kissable mouth.

An angel sent down from Heaven to tempt him.

And there was The Fool in him talking again.

Teagan mentally pushed that romantic part of himself back into the man cave he'd crawled out of and made sure to lock the metal gate this time.

"Sorry about that." Teagan gave her his sappiest face. "I seem to have lost my wings while on my lonely journey in search of you, my Queen."

Was that dramatic? A little.

But when else could he use such flourishing speeches if not with her?

She laughed. For a second, all he could do was stare, speechless as ever, while the Ice Queen's mirth flowed around him.

She didn't giggle. She didn't try to chuckle in that annoying half-hearted attempt girls thought made them more attractive either. She laughed as only someone with confidence could. Whole heartedly, freely. It wasn't disguised to sound pretty, and it sure wasn't musical. It was real. Beautiful.
