clinging to memories to still feel desirable

i am happier now
the sunlight is white and warm
and i am glass
translucent and shining
my heart beats like a diamond
my blood like water
veins and bones
spiderwebbing in crystal
i glitter under light
when i flutter my eyelashes
i burn like a star
when before i was opaque
all muscle and flesh
yellow bone and broken teeth
hot-blooded because i am alive
cracking knuckles
oily eyelids
fingers against cheeks
shaking
in an effort of gentleness
trying beyond trying
to touch without fear
this mess of blood and flesh
cold and hot and dripping tears
horrid compared to my new glass self
but far more real—
the sorrow and pain
the hot flesh and swelling tongue
are solid; and familiar.

now i am happy,
lovely,
but
see-through.
