you kissed my chapped lips and lured me into your black-as-an-ink-blotch-smeared-onto-crisped-burnt-pages for an excuse of a life. foolish how i thought you gave me a freeway ticket to hang stars down your charcoal sky when all this time you had tied me down my own world — bleeding me and calling it lovely, bruising me and finding it pretty.

but i am past that, and i write this not to reach out and surrender an empty hand to hold, but to crush the past with the very hand i write this — crush it, tear it, and discard, just as you did with my heart.
