I am so motivated by now. Thank you so much, Zachariah Jones.
Ellen Soon-To-Be Williams, watch me!
I write down the reason Zach suggested―plus a paragraph of explanation in it; because why not? Maybe if I give a paragraph or two essay of each reason Ellen would give me more chance?―in my telephone’s note―because guys, I don’t have any motive to bring any kind of book now, am I? Real guys don’t bring a note book anywhere. After all I will re-write all this thing down; my handwriting right now is so dumb. “Wow,” I say then, after I finish writing down the reason and a paragraph of explanation. “You do real good for something like this. Thanks!”
Actually, no. I don’t think this is a good reason to be given to a girl. Even though Ellen is so smart you can’t outsmart her, but still.
“No problem,” Zach smiles.
“But we still have nineteen more reasons to―”
My words are cut by someone’s phone ringing. I realize it is Zach’s phone when he searches for his phone in his pocket. He takes it out and sees the screen. I don’t know what number or whose name appears, but Zach’s face is brightening.
He stands up, giving a distance or two before answering the phone. I see his smile gets brighter and brighter the more he talks to someone on the other line. I bite the inside of my cheek, trying to hold my smile. Oh God, look! The whole world must see this! Zach is embarrassed! Ooooooh, how cute!
I said it in the straightest way possible, mind you.
Zach scratches his cheek, a habit when he is embarrassed. By his habit and his smile and oh my God his cheeks flushed I decide it is from his girlfriend.
“Uhh, yeah,” I hear Zach say. Wow, he’s totally embarrassed. Is he really in love? Wow, I wonder who the lucky girl is actually. “Okay, I’ll see you right now.” With that sentence and a brighter smile, Zach ends the call. I put my elbows on the table and my head rests on my palms, smiling at him in mischief.
“Oooohhh,” I say. “Who is that lucky girl over there?”
“Girl?” Zach frowns. “What girl?”
Now I frown. “The phone?”
Zach tilts his head to the side, dropping his gaze to his left. “Wh-what?” he stutters. “It was Derek on the phone.”
My jaw drops. “Huh? Are you sure?”
“One hundred percent certain,” Zach shows me the incoming call history. Well, it is Derek. “I swear to the God it is Derek.”
Wait.
Wait a second.
Wait a freaking second.
I blink. “Derek Martin?”
Zach nods. “What? Any problem?”
“Huh―” I can’t say anything more.
I’m so done with life.
“Well okay,” Zach waves his hand, cutting my sentence off. “Have to go now to Derek’s. Just call me once you need me.”
Before I can say anything more, Zach leaves.
Wait, what??? Derek and Zach??? Zach and Derek? They are???
Sylvia, I share your grief.
WAIT, I’m assuming everything too much.
Maybe Derek wants Zach to meet a girl Zach likes or something. Or maybe the girl’s contact name is Derek just in case I or Sylvia or Ellen or Tania asks.
