I awoke to a knock on my door.
"Wake up, Huey!" Mom called out. "Breakfast time!"
I jumped out of bed and walked downstairs to the dining room. Mom had made pancakes. She was pouring a lot of syrup on mine.
"Mom, I've told before, not too much syrup," I said.
"Aw, but it's a special day," she said. "Wanna know what day it is?"
"Uh...is it New Year's?" I quipped.
"It's your birthday, silly goose! Er, duck."
"Tomorrow's my birthday."
"But, today I want to take you to all of the places you want to go to! Then, you'll get two whole days to do so much stuff!"
"I guess that's okay."
"So, where do you want to go first?"
I had to think about that...Usually on my birthday, we go to the beach. We could go today, but that seemed off.
"How about we go to that new arcade, near the beach?" Mom asked. "If you want to, that is. I'm not saying we should, but, you know."
"That sounds good," I said, eating my pancakes.
