Chapter 6 - Guarding and Collar

Natsu's POV

The scent of bacon tickled my nose as I woke up from my first night in Lucy's apartment. I looked at where Lucy was supposed to be sleeping but saw an empty bed. I guessed she was making breakfast and bolted to the kitchen at the thought of food. I jumped up onto her leg begging her to give me food. She smiled down at me and started dishing up food. "Something smells good in here" I heard someone said at the doorway and whipped my head around to see Gray. "Sit at the table, I'm almost finished dishing up" Lucy replied and I looked back up to her. I heard Gray walk away behind me.

I followed behind Lucy as she was dishing breakfast on the table. She put my plate of bacon besides the table and I started eating the delicious bacon that Lucy cooked. "So, are we going to the guild today?" I heard Gray say as I ate. 'Guild?' I wondered. "Actually, I was thinking of going shopping today to get some puppy supplies for Natsu" Lucy replied. 'Are we going somewhere?' I wondered. "I remembered you mentioned it to me yesterday" Erza replied.

"Are we bringing the idiotic pink puppy with us-OW" Gray exclaimed as I bit his foot from under the table because of what he called me. "I think he should stay here" Lucy replied and I whipped my head towards her legs. "Good" Gray said and from under the table, I returned the glare he was giving me.

As Lucy was having a bath, I entertained myself by trying to secretly catch Happy's tail while he was busy eating his fish. 'I shall capture his tail because I am ninja' I thought. When Gray, Erza and Lucy were about to leave, I tried to follow them out but Lucy stopped me with her foot. "No Natsu, you have to stay here with Happy" Lucy said to me before closing the door.

'Don't leave me here Lucy' I whined and scratched at the door but she didn't open the door. I quickly ran to the window and stood up on my back paws with my front paws leaning on the window. 'Lucy come back!' I barked and she looked up at me. I whined a bit anxiously and kept eye contact with her as I begged for her to come back inside. "Oh no, Natsu's using his puppy dog eyes. Lets go" Gray said as he dragged Lucy away from the apartment. 'Stupid stripper!' I barked angrily as he walked away with Lucy and Erza. Before they were too far away, Gray turned his head to look at me and I saw a smug smirk on his face. I growled back at him.

I sat down on the window sill and decided to guard the apartment until Lucy came home. Hopefully without Gray. I looked over at Happy to see what he was doing and he was sleeping on the couch, snoring away. Turning back to the window, I watched people and boatmen pass by. 'Why did she leave me behind? How am I going to protect you, Lucy, if I'm not with you?' I whined to myself.

After about two hours, I noticed Lucy walking towards the apartment besides Erza and unfortunately Gray, holding a bag in her hands. I excitedly stood up on my back paws with my front paws leaning on the window and my tail wagging. As I saw her walking towards the door, I ran towards the door to welcome her home. 'Lucy's back! Lucy's back!' I excitedly barked. She opened the door and I rushed to her side, lifting myself onto her leg. 'Where did you go? What is in that bag? Is it for me? Is it food?' I barked.

I followed her to the table then I saw her put the bag on the table. "We got some stuff for you Natsu" she said. 'What is it?' I wondered as she pulled out the first item out of the bag. It looked like a collar with a tag on it. "Come here Natsu" she said as she kneeled down and wrapped the collar around my neck. I turned my head to look at the collar better. "Natsu stay still" she said and I paused for a second so she could finish putting the collar on me.

I looked down at the collar and got a better look at it. For some reason the design made me feel comfortable. I loved the collar Lucy picked out for me and I licked it to show how much I liked it. I looked up to see her reaction and saw her smiling. 'I love seeing her smile' I thought.

Suddenly she looked like she had an idea and went back to her bag. 'What is she gonna pull out next?' I wondered and then saw she pulled out a dog bed. I watched as she placed the bed down at the foot of her bed besides her desk. She then puts a scarf with the same design as my collar around the walls of the bed. Somehow the scarf made it ten times better. I jumped onto the soft bed and looked around at the scarf on the wall. Satisfied with the bed, I laid down. With a big yawn, I decided to take an afternoon nap after all that guarding I did this morning.

I don't know how long I'd been napping for but I was woken up by someone poking my head. I growled a bit with my eyes still shut and turned my head away. Whoever was poking me earlier continued to poke me but at my side this time. 'Stop it!' I snapped at the person's finger. I heard a low chuckle and looked up to see it was Gray the one who was annoying me. I growled at him, 'why did you wake me up!' I angrily barked at him.

He ignored my bark and then flicked me between the eyes. That hurt a bit. 'What's your problem?! Fight me Stripper!' I barked as I jumped to my feet ready for a fight. "Natsu! Dinner!" I heard Lucy call out from the kitchen. 'You're lucky Lucy stepped in and I'm hungry or I would've messed you up so bad' I barked before I ran to the kitchen to get my dinner.
