Chapter 10 - Crystanite

I'm so excited to do my first job with puppy Natsu. This time our job is a safe one, we have to retrieve a mineral ore for a blacksmith. After our carriage ride to Mosswood Valley, I carried the recovering motion sick puppy in my arms to the client's blacksmith shop. "Ah you must be the Fairy Tail wizards. Thank you so much for accepting my request" the blacksmith greeted as we arrived at his shop. I noticed Erza walking around the shop, looking amazed at all the swords and armour hanging up.

"So, what's this mineral ore you want us to retrieve sir?" I asked. "I need you to retrieve a purple crystal called 'Crystanite'. You can find it in the forest east from here. I add it to my iron to make magical weapons and armour. Best magical weapons in the whole of Fiore" he replied with a bit of a boast. "The craftsmanship on these weapons are incredible" Erza commented as she pulled one of the swords off the rack and inspected it. "I see you have a weapon expert amongst you. I'll tell you what, I'll let you take a sword on top of your reward if you retrieve a lot of Crystanite for me" the blacksmith offered. "Deal, lets go right now" Erza replied with stars in her eyes as she grabbed me and Gray, dragging us along with her. Wendy, Carla and Happy followed after us. 'Now I know how Natsu feels when Erza drags him off with Gray' I thought.

Once we were at the edge of the forest, I put Natsu down with his leash in my hand. The excited puppy ran into the forest dragging me behind him, excited to get this search started. A hand grabbed the leash next to my hand and stopped Natsu from dragging me any further. "Let me take him" Gray said as he took Natsu's leash into his hands. "Why do you want to take him?" I asked him with a sceptical tone. I mean why would Gray out of anyone want to hold Natsu's leash unless there's a catch somewhere. "By the way, put some clothes on" I said since he stripped. "Not again!" he exclaimed as he saw he was only in his boxers and then turned his attention back to me. "I wouldn't be good if I let my friend be dragged by this flaming idiot" he replied before Natsu nipped at his ankle. Gray glared at him and I loudly clapped once to break up the fight. They both stopped by the sudden noise.

"I should try that trick myself one day" Erza said impressed, as her, Wendy and Carla caught up to us. "A loud clap seems to get puppy Natsu's attention when he's not listening to me" I explained. "Good to know. Now back onto the search, I think we should split up so we have a better chance of finding enough Crystanite. Gray and Lucy, you two will team up with Natsu and Happy. Wendy and Carla, you two are with me. Find as much Crystanite as you can and meet us back at the hotel" she said before she dragged Wendy and Carla with her.

"She's really excited about getting one of that blacksmith's swords as part of our reward" I said. "I haven't seen her this excited unless it about strawberry cake" Gray replied. "I think nothing can top her strawberry cake obsession but magical swords come in a close third" I replied. "Why third?" Gray asked, "because Jellal ties first with strawberry cake" I replied with a smile on my face before walking ahead of the boys.

I heard a quick "woah" from Gray before I saw Natsu walking beside me. I smiled down at him as he looked up at me happily. "Their totally in loooooove~" Happy teased, "shut up cat before I Lucy Kick you to the other side of the forest" I threatened. Happy looked horrified and quickly flew behind Gray to hide. "Erza 2.0" I heard Gray mutter, "what was that?" I said in a stern voice. "Nothing" Gray squeaked, 'those tips Erza gave me are awesome' I inwardly cheered.

"Not that rock" I grumbled to myself. We've been searching almost the whole day and still haven't found any Crystanite. To make things worse, the sun will be going down soon. "I wonder if Erza's group found any" I wondered out loud. "I doubt it. Erza would've contacted our lacrimas if they did" Gray replied. "Maybe we should start heading back?" Happy suggested. "Lets look a little longer, I have a feeling we're close to finding it" I replied.

Suddenly Natsu ran to my side and growled at the bushes in front of us. "What's the matter Natsu?" I asked, "he can't reply Lucy" Happy said. "I know but he might be sensing danger" I replied and then suddenly a pack of Vulcans jumped out of the trees, surrounding us. "Oo I knew I smelled pretty woman" one of them said which I guessed was their leader. "Great, some perverted monkeys showed up" I said sarcastically and summoned Taurus. "Looking gooooood as always Miss Luuuucy" Taurus said as he appeared in a golden light. 'Why do I always summon the perverted spirit to handle the perverted beasts?' I thought. "Taurus take them down!" I ordered, "I hope you give me a smoooooch after this" he replied as he swung his axe at the Vulcans.

"Lucy, hold Natsu's leash" Gray said, handing me the leash before freezing some of the Vulcans with his Ice magic. I picked Natsu up into my arms as Gray shot his Ice-make Cannon at one of the Vulcans. Natsu was still growling and whipping his head around to glare at each Vulcan who came too close to us. Soon Taurus and Gray had beaten all the Vulcans. I quickly sent Taurus back to the Spirit World before he tried to kiss me and then we walked past all the unconscious Vulcans. We noticed a cave not too far away and decided to explore it before it became dark.

"I can't see a thing. How are we going to see if we can't use Natsu's fire?" Gray said. "I've got an idea" I replied and transformed into my Leo Star Dress form. I lit my fist with light and lit up the whole cave. "Woah" we muttered as we saw huge chunks of Cystanite covering the walls. "I think we found the motherload" Gray said and then I thought back to our encounter with the Vulcans. "I think the Vulcans live in this cave" I said, "that would explain why they popped out of nowhere" Gray replied. "Can we please get some Crystanite and get back to the hotel before the Vulcans decide to wake up?" Happy asked. "Alright, Ice-Make Hammer!" Gray chanted and his Ice hammer broke the Crystanite into pieces.

We began filling the sacks we brought with us. Natsu helped me fill my sack by picking a piece in his mouth and dropping it into my sack. After we finished filling the sacks, I pat Natsu's head in praise before we headed out to the hotel.
