Chapter 22: So This Is How It Ends

A/n Quick author's not this is the final chapter before the epilogue and I swear I might have teared up writing this and listening to the song.

3rd Person P.O.V

Over the next 2 months Hylia had been guarded by Eric and Yata everywhere she went and she hated it. Her husband was gone for weeks at a time and would sometimes reek of booze but nonetheless Hylia was always there to assist her husband.

She had now a large bump and it was very obvious that she was pregnant. She would always eat an sleep to take care of her baby. Her baby and Tatara were the only things that kept Hylia going, her own husband had started to drift from her. She noticed it but did nothing as she knew how Mikoto would have reacted.

Scepter 4 and Homra were constantly fighting because of Mikoto's sword's condition. Hylia had tried to talk her husband into stepping down because of their child but Mikoto refused. He took Tatara's critical condition event harder than anyone even Hylia.

She had tried to restore his sword to a better condition but because of her and Mikoto's strained relationship it didn't work. She also could not use that much magical power as it was bad for her baby. Today she was by herself and decided to go visit Seri and Scepter 4, when she arrived she was greeted by Fushimi, Yata's enemy and a former member of Homra.

"Good morning Red Queen, are you looking for Seri." "Good morning Fushimi, yeah I'm here to see Seri." "I'm afraid she's out today, we are slammed with requests and work because of your husband." "I'm sorry but as you can understand we just want justice for Tatara."

"I get it, but I see you're the only one who wants the fighting to stop." "I'm merely looking out for my child and my clan. My husband is blind with rage like a spoiled cub with a thorn in it's paw." "Speaking of your husband you will be surprised that he's actually here in Scepter 4 in a jail cell."

Hylia's eyes widened as she didn't realize that her husband had been imprisoned. "Can you take me to him?" "I'd have to get permission from my King before I can take you to him just protocol I'm sorry." "Don't be I'll talk to Munakata myself."

Hylia got up and made her way to Munakata's office, she didn't care to knock and opened the door. "Hello Reisi." "Well I definitely wasn't expecting you today Hylia." "I just came to visit Seri and then I was told by Fushimi that my husband has been imprisoned." "Yeah, he gave up kind of easily I know he's planning something."

"My husband is a stubborn man of course he's planning something. How I wish he would just step down." "You tried convincing him to step down from being King?" "I have but it's no use, he wants to kill the person that hurt Tatara." "If this keeps going the sword will surely fall and I can't allow that. If it comes to that I may have to kill Mikoto."

"It won't come to that I hope. Mikoto knows how important our child is and once my child is born he'll realize the right decision." "I hope you're right. Anyway do you know what the gender is yet?" "No, not yet I want it to be a surprise but I think it's gonna be a boy." "Why?" "You're asking the girl with 10 boys in the family. I think it's safe to say that it's going to be a boy but if it's girl I'll still be equally as happy."

"So I'm guessing the reason you're in my office is because you want to see Mikoto right?" "Yeah I mean I just want to talk to him for a bit and then I'll go." "Fine, but just don''t try to help him break out." "I won't" Hylia waved Reisi goodbye and then headed to the prison cells. She stopped in front of her husband's cell and made a noise so that he would wake up as he was sleeping on the wooden bed.

Mikoto stood up and saw is wife standing there with an annoyed look on her face and a baby bump that looked like she was like a whale. She opened the cage and headed inside and wrapped her arms around Mikoto's neck. He snuggled his face in between her neck and kissed it gently. "So you wanna tell me why you're in here and not at home?" "I'm merely stalling is all." "Mikoto I think it's time you considered stepping down."

"And I told you never in a million years." "Mikoto what about our child? My son needs a father to raise him and if you keep this up you might die." "What makes you think that our child's gonna be a boy?" "Mother's intuition." Mikoto chuckled and pulled his wife closer to him and kissed her. "For you I'll think about it."

Soon time was up and Hylia had to head home but before she left she told Mikoto something. "I hope you come home soon" "I will. I always come home safe and sound for you."

Hylia went back to Homra and then headed to her room to get ready for bed. The next week Mikoto broke out and was back home in Hylia's arms. For the next two weeks the entire clan had relocated to the school on the island as they got a lead there. Mikoto didn't do anything and slept on a broken building all day occasionally playing with Anna, eating when Hylia brought him food and when he needed to shower.

Hylia was with Yata and Rikio interviewing kids at the school about a silver haired student but they had no leads. Yata didn't want to talk to girls and Hylia started to tease him when Fushimi came and started to fight with Yata.

In the middle of the fight she got a call from Kusanagi telling her that Tatara was out of a coma and he was awake. She wanted to go to him but then Scepter 4 started to fight against Homra, she headed inside the school and staid with Kusanagi and Anna. Then came in the Silver King and Seri who claimed that this was happening because the Colorless King was framing Shiro as Tatara's attacker.

Hylia tried to track down Mikoto but was unable to as Anna was shot and Yata was injured. Hylia quickly helped them and then rushed to find her husband. Hylia ran to find Mikoto and saw above her were the Blue and Red Swords. She knew that Mikoto and Reisi were fighting and then she remembered Munakata's promise. She ran as fast as she could and saw the two of them fighting.

She watched in horror as she saw Mikoto's red flames and Munakata's blue sparks fly. She stood away from the fight and tried to heal Mikoto's sword. It glowed bright red and started to fix itself when Mikoto shouted at her. "Stop trying to save it Hylia. Think about our child, our son." Hylia shook her head and kept on fixing the sword.

Mikoto shut her power off which caused the sword to stop glowing, he turned to her and mouthed to her 'It's ok' Hylia watched as Shiro came into the battle and said he had the Colorless King trapped inside him and told Mikoto to kill him.

"Mikoto don't do it please." Hylia was on her knees begging Mikoto not to but her husband turned to her and told her that he loved her. "I'm sorry Hylia. I have to do this, tell my son everyday that I love him." "Mikoto please no you can tell him yourself just step down please."

"I love you Hylia I always will."

Mikoto then used all his power at once and fired it directly at Shiro, once the smoke had cleared nothing remained. The Red Sword came down slowly and Hylia saw Munakata ready his sword to kill Mikoto. At the last second Hylia stepped in front of Mikoto and the sword pierced the right side of her stomach.

Mikoto and Reisi's eyes widened for a second before Reisi also stabbed Mikoto, Mikoto whispered something to Reisi and then laid in Hylia's arms. Hylia cried as Mikoto's eyes were starting to close. "Mikoto please stay awake. I love you please." "I love you to Hylia. I really mean it I would love you until the day I died. You are the one person I loved. Please take care of our son." "I can't leave you though. You are the love of my life."

"It's ok baby, let me go please take care of our baby." Hylia nodded and kissed Mikoto, her tears falling onto his face. He died in her arms which left Hylia crying on the floor begging him to wake up. She was a Queen without a King now and if she didn't hurry she also wouldn't be a mother.
