Green Eyed Girl

"Do you love me?" she asked, her voice trembling with eagerness.

I looked at her. At her slightly crooked nose and one-sided dimple. At the golden curls resting against her cheek, and her bottomless green eyes that always encaptivated everyone. I saw the humour in her playful grin; the wisdom buried in the small crease between her eyebrows. I looked her curvaceous body with all its voluptuous bends and bows, at the soft white skin that seemed to crumple slightly around her thighs.

I hesitated too long.

Her grin slowly faded, as she protectively wrapped her arms around her body, shielding herself from my alleged judgement. Her insecurity subverted the longstanding confidence, as her green eyes started welling up.

"I'm so sorry, but I don't think I do," I whispered to the girl that was staring back at me in the mirror.
