The course that life has taken is fixed and definite
Like a river flowing fast enough to curve out the rock
Flowing persistently until a scar remains on Earth
Flowing too strong to swim upstream; back into the past
Flowing so fast I can barely stay afloat; drowning
But back up the river, You are building a damn
Trying to keep me from moving forward
Trying to pool our lives together in an infinite lake
A life of peace and tranquil waters. No surging river.
The lake is still as a mirror, gentle as a whisper
But the river runs cold. The river is furious.
It washes me out to open sea with such force
And around me a sudden vastness. An emptiness
Horizons of water and not much more.
