Ashton Irwin had been gone for months, touring the world with his band and meeting tons of adoring fans everyday. You, however, were left home to continue your education and wait patiently for him to return. You missed him more and more each day but you'd grown accustomed to the quiet days and lonely nights spent waiting for him to call you.
The days and night had finally paid off though, and today was the day. Ashton was finally coming home today. You sat wedged between his little brother, Harry, and his little sister Lauren in the bustling airport. Fans were lined up behind barricades, holding signs and posters and screeching amongst each other in excitement.
You were silent though, consumed with your thoughts of being in Ashton's arms again and finally getting to hear his voice again. Sure you'd talked on the phone almost every night but that didn't compare to hearing his voice in person, to feel the rumble within him as he spoke while holding you close. Those were the things you missed the most, the little things. Like how he always kissed the top of your head when you hugged, or the way he smelled like Heaven all the time.
The screams intensified suddenly, pulling you from your thoughts as you looked anxiously towards the gates. "They're coming!" The fans were shrieking to each other, some crying and others simply screaming at the top of their lungs until the could scream no more.
Luke came out first, sleepily waving to the fans and hugging his mother tightly. Liz was much shorter than Luke, hugging him back before leading him out of the airport to his home where he'd surely fall asleep right away. He looked exhausted.
Calum was next, grinning happily and talking with some of the fans before he was lead away by security guards. It was heartwarming to watch him embrace his two favorite girls, his mother and sister. He gave you a quick wave as he followed them out of the airport as well.
Michael was practically dead on his feet with exhaustion as he followed the security guard out of the airport, taking a few pictures with a few fans. He didn't stay long, though, swaying around and barely keeping his eyes open. You couldn't help but think of him like a sleepy kitten, his eyes barely peeled open and his pink lips spreading open wide in a big yawn.
Ashton didn't come out seconds later like you'd expected, your breath halting in your chest as you waited a painful five minutes until he finally stepped through the gates. You let him take his time with the fans, though you wanted nothing more than to hug him and never let go. You watched impatiently as he hugged his siblings and mother like his life depended on it, looking happier than you'd ever seen him before.
He met your gaze from over his mother's head, smiling at you longingly and pulling out of the hug with his mother slowly. It was like a dramatic scene in a movie the way he walked towards you, taking agonizingly slow steps until he was right in front of you and suddenly you had no idea what to do.
You were nervous and you didn't understand why. This was Ashton Irwin, the boy who you'd been head over heels in love with for years and the boy who'd reciprocated those feelings wholeheartedly. So why were you suddenly so scared that you weren't good enough? That you'd changed somehow while he'd been gone, that maybe he'd changed while he'd been gone.
"Colette," He breathed, an adoring grin cracking his face as he pulled you into his embrace. He hugged you so tightly you couldn't breathe, but you didn't care as you hugged him back just as tightly. "I missed you so much."
The screams around you were long forgotten, like someone had pressed mute on their voices as you two clung to each other like koalas in the middle of the airport. "I missed you too." You whispered, burying your face in his chest.
You could just barely hear his mother cooing quietly from behind you, "Aw! Quick, Lauren, give me the camera!"
