the arguing had a dull exhaustion to it, like they'd been over the same bitterness too many times before. noah had a sneer in his voice that extended to his eyes. this was no longer a simple "he said, and she said." feelings were bound to be hurt. every mean thing he'd thought came flooding out, but he only dug deeper at the wound.

but kaia knew better, this wasn't a time to stick around. they'd had been through this, and it never ended well. never ended right. if she stayed he'd break her down into a sobbing mess, then cry himself, needing her to facilitate the reconciliation. this way the pain would last longer, but at least the cut wouldn't be so deep.

because afterall, every time they fought, it never ended up right.
