The Last Time

It was the first sunny day New York City has seen in a long time and Theo was moving himself back into his and Kitty's place.

Boris had helped him lug everything up to the doorstep, and Kitty met them there, taking a few bags herself. She hadn't said much, but she smiled welcomingly at the newcomer, then a bit hesitantly at Theo, who tried to look reassuring. He had a feeling he just looked uncomfortable.

He had faith that they would work out a routine soon.

Now he and Boris walked together through one of the less developed parts of town. It was no Central Park, but it was nice. The sun beat down, and Theo bit his lip to keep himself from smiling as he opened their umbrella, holding it over their heads as they walked. Boris bumped shoulders with him, shaking his head and chuckling.

It was a beautiful day outside.

They didn't say much— but they didn't have to. That was the most beautiful part of being right. The comfort. The silence that said everything for them. Breathing in the fresh air and breathing the toxicity of their pasts out together.

After just a few minutes of walking under the old contraption, Boris took it out of Theo's hands and closed it. He strayed from Theo's side and the man watched as his lover wandered over to a young boy and girl in rags who sat under a tree with little shade to protect them from the beating sun and nothing to shield them from possible rain.

His heart swelled as the love of his life offered the girl the umbrella. She stared for a few seconds, then took it, positioning it so that it would cover her and her friend adequately. Boris straightened up, said something Theo could not hear, and she smiled. He patted her head gently then made his way back over to Theo, grabbing his hand and twining their fingers together.

"Won't the sun bother you?" He asked his lover teasingly as they made their way out of the park and on their way back to an empty apartment— Kitty was spending the weekend at Tom's. Boris grinned, squeezing Theo's hand and looking up at him with a certain warmth in his dark eyes.

"Is okay, Potter. But only when sharing it with you."
