It started with Tanah working around the house. He was doing it alone since Petir and Solar were asked by Tok Aba to run some errands. Api, Angin and Daun were going out with Goals and Fang. That only left Air and Tanah to do the chores. Well, it certainly left Tanah to do the chores while Air slept the day away.Tanah didn't mind it, though. He did his chores without any complaints. He was humming a soft tune as he swept the floor. That was when Air stumbled into the living room. Tanah looked up at his younger brother and chuckled fondly at him. Tanah knew Air just woke up from his sleep judging by his bed hair. He greeted him with a smile.
"Good afternoon sleepy head," Air jolted slightly at the sound of Tanah's voice. He clearly didn't expect anyone to be in the house. He nodded lazily at Tanah. "Afternoon," he yawned. "There's some leftovers from breakfast if you want to eat, Air. I haven't cooked lunch yet, sorry about that," Air looked at his brother, he saw the broom, the apron and the sweat that ran down his brother's cheeks. 'He must have been working around the house since morning.. And all I did was sleep.. Isn't he exhausted?' Air thought.
"Air? Did you hear me?" Air snapped out from his thought when Tanah spoke. He immediately nodded his head. "Yeah.. I heard you. Sorry, I was just wondering how long.. Uh.. How long you've been doing the chores.." Air said awkwardly. It was not a secret that Air is one of the quiet and awkward one among them. Not to forget, shy. Tanah smiled at him, his usual kind smile. "Since morning, actually," Air frowned a bit at that. "Aren't you tired?"
Tanah blinked at the sudden question before smiling sheepishly. "Well, it does gets tiring when doing the chores. But I don't mind it though. I mean, yeah I'm tired but if I don't do the chores then who will? Most of you would avoid doing the chores," he chuckled, not really accusing his brothers for being lazy. "Besides, it's quite relaxing to me, you know? Like I can't actually sit still for too long, I need to do something. So, doing the chores helps me," he continued with a smile. Air looked at him for a moment before he spoke softly.
"I'm.. I'm sorry for not helping you much, Tanah. I know I sleep a lot and I'm.. Well I'm literally the laziest among all of us.. I never considered how.. How tired you could be everyday.. I'm.. I'm really sorry Tanah.." he looked down, feeling guilty for not helping his older brother before. Tanah's eyes widened in surprise at that. He dropped the broom and went to his little brother. He hugged him close.
"Hey, hey.. Don't say that, Air. I told you, I don't mind it, okay? It's alright, you don't have to blame yourself. It's in your nature to sleep a lot you know? I mean if I could feel as calm as you do all the time, I might sleep as well," he chuckled at that. "Air, I'm not mad at you for not helping me or for always sleeping in bed. I'm not mad at all, okay? I understand," Air looked at his brother, sniffling a bit as he felt tears pooling in his eyes. He couldn't believe that he was crying. He felt so guilty. Tanah was always the responsible one, always the one who helped them no matter what. Air always saw him taking a nap after he did the chores. Sometimes, he'd even see his brother looking tired when he was doing his chores. For some reason, none of the others said anything, including him. And for another unexplainable reason, Tanah never complained to them about not being helpful. He'd just scold them when they made a mess, but never asked them to clean it up.
"Air? Hey, don't cry. There's nothing to cry about, silly," Tanah's gentle voice once again broke his thoughts. He looked at his brother with teary eyes. "I'm just.. I just feel so bad, Tanah... You.. You do all the works, you never complained and we just.. We never helped.. I never helped.. We'd help if you ask us to do so but that is rare.. You always do it alone and I always see you looking really exhausted and...and.." his breath hitched as he cried. Tanah held him close tightly, shushing him softly and ruffling his bed hair. "It's alright, Air. You don't have to blame yourself for that. I didn't ask for you guys to help me, did I? So it's not entirely your fault," Tanah said. "But I'm your brother, I should be helping you instead of lazing around, sleeping," Air sniffled. Tanah sighed softly and looked at his brother fondly. "Well then, you can help me today if you want. Will that make you feel better? Or do you want me to make some hot chocolate instead?" Air, looked up at his brother and wiped his tears away. "I.. I wanna help you first.. And then.. Hot chocolate, after?" he asked shyly, earning a gentle smile from his brother.
"Sure thing, Air. Now, why don't you take a bath first? And then you can help me to do the laundry? We can cook lunch together, if you want as well," Air eagerly nodded his head. He wanted to be helpful, he didn't mind helping Tanah. "Alright, clean yourself up first, okay?" Tanah gently kissed his forehead, stunning the water element. Air smiled at him shyly before giving his brother a quick hug and went to take a bath.
Once Air took his bath, he went to help Tanah. They worked together well, especially when it comes to cooking lunch. Air was really surprised to know that he actually has a knack at cooking. Tanah was smiling at him proudly and it warmed his heart. They talked and laughed together. Air never felt that close with his older brother before. He was usually close with the younger ones, the troublemaker trio. But that day, he felt like he had gotten closer to his oldest brother. They spent the day cleaning up the house, cooking and baking some cookies together. They shared some stories as well.
When Petir and Solar came home after helping Tok Aba,it was in the late afternoon. They were surprised to see Tanah taking a nap on the couch. What was even more surprising was to see Air, wide awake and reading a book. They felt like they entered another dimension. Air, looked at them and gave them a small wave before continuing with his book. Petir and Solar blinked. "Uh.. Is Tanah okay?" Solar asked. "Are you okay?" was what Petir asked. Air looked at them and put away his book. "I'm fine, I just.. Don't feel like sleeping. I helped Tanah today, he looked tired.. So.. I told him to take a nap and now, his napping," Air explained. "You... Willingly helped him?" Petir asked, earning him a glare. "Yes, I helped him. I felt bad you know? None of us actually do the works in this house, it's always him. He let me helped him to calm me down. And guess what? I actually have a knack at cooking," Petir and Solar didn't know what to say to that.
"Well, thank you for helping him, Air. I know it means a lot to him when you did that," Petir said with a rare soft smile on his face. "All of us should really start helping him around the house," Solar said and Air nodded in agreement. "Well, let him sleep for now. I'll help with dinner later on," Solar said. "Sleep well, Tanah. You deserve it," Petir said and he gently kissed his forehead, returning the gesture his brother gave to him before. Tanah smiled in his sleep, making his brothers smiled as well. Tanah had the most peaceful nap in his life, that day.
