The rushing water from the river beside you brought a sense of ease to you. When Timefall wasn't a current threat, the peacefulness of the world was rather nice. And though you yearned to know what the country once looked like, the rolling green hills with rivers cutting through them were a sight that would be hard to give up.
But that peacefulness was interrupted when you passed by a MULE sensor hidden in some tall grass, causing an orange scanner to spread out. You slowed to a stop and closed your eyes, taking a deep breath that had Sam looking over in confusion.
"What is it?" he asked.
In the distance, you spotted a few MULEs patrolling. The moment the orange scanner pulled back in and pinged your and Sam's locations through the cargo he was carrying, making the MULEs turn and run toward you.
"MULEs," you sighed, rolling your neck side to side, "be ready to fight."
"Just great..."
You sprinted forward, beelining toward one of the MULEs carrying an electrified pole. They swung it at you, and you ducked under it then came up and grabbed their shoulders, slamming your knee into their abdomen. They grunted and hunched over, and you brought your elbow down on the back of their neck. They fell to the ground, and you snatched the electrified pole from them and brought it down on them. Their body started convulsing, and a sadistic part of you enjoyed the torture, but you forced yourself to stop before you could kill them.
You turned around, spotting Sam taking down a MULE in your peripheral. The others charged in your direction, and you twirled the electrified pole and prepared for another fight.
Thunder rumbled overhead, and the MULEs stopped in their tracks and looked up at the sky. A few inverted, upside-down rainbows appeared in the sky, and your hood immediately covered your head. The MULEs quickly retreated back to where they had set up their base, and you turned to Sam just as the few droplets of Timefall hit your clothes and both of your cuff links rang.
"MULEs gave you both some trouble, huh? Good thing the rain decided then to move in. Even they know better than to mess with BTs," Die-Hardman said.
He ended the call before you or Sam could respond. He was right. What perfect timing for Timefall to roll in. Almost too perfect.
A chill crept up your spine at the feeling of someone watching you, and you turned around. Higgs stood at the top of the hill along the path you and Sam had been following, his cloak billowing in the breeze.
"Higgs," you muttered.
"What?" Sam asked, but just before he turned to you, Higgs teleported away. "Did you say something?"
"It's nothing." You tossed aside the electrified pole. "Let's just keep moving."
Sam didn't push you, though he certainly didn't believe your response. He grunted then continued along the path with you following behind him. When you reached the top of the hill, a few golden flecks in the grass caught your attention. A small chiralium notecard rested on the ground, and you picked it up.
Don't want you wasting your time on those scared by a little rain, honey.
You scoffed and shook your head, though you couldn't help but mentally thank Higgs. MULEs were annoying to deal with, and he saved you from the unneeded hassle of knocking them all out.
